What makes you like where you live?

I live in a small town in rural Southern New Jersey. We purchased our house in 2013 in a neighborhood with a 1/3 of an acre. I was born and raised in this county. I love the small town feel, sense of community, and proximity to the Jersey Shore (50 miles about 1 hour drive). I also love being...

    T-33 trainer

My son really wanted to go the Franklin Institute with his best friend for his 9th birthday in lieu of a party. He really wanted to see the Tesla coil and Franklin exhibits but they rotated that exhibit out. However, we managed to see tons of great exhibits one of the more interesting ones was...

Machine shop Tools on a Battleship

I had the opportunity to tour the Battleship NJ this weekend with my son’s cubs scout troop. I was blown away by the size of the ship up close. It was really amazing to see and worthwhile if you are ever in the Philadelphia/SJ area. I really enjoyed the machinery and tools that helped keep the...

    Wheel Bearing 2007 CRV

My 2007 Honda crv AWD was making a gentle roaring sound for a while now. This past week it got quite a bit louder and it sounded like it was coming from the right rear. I checked with wheels off the ground at all 4 corners and found no movement, at 12 and 6 o clock. so I ordered the Timken unit...

Honda service left fill plug loose

My in-laws have a 2019 Pilot that has always been dealer serviced. Today I noticed oil spots on their driveway then I go to their garage and notice the spots coincide with the rear differential of their car. My in-laws had their diff serviced back in April. I crawl under the car and the fill...

    Oil pan leak

Well I took my 2021 Subaru Ascent into the dealer for a tire remount and balance, and I brought up my oil pan leak again. Last year they blew me off saying it was my Fumoto drain valve, which I knew was a lie since it was leaking above the valve at the pan block interface. So now I go next week...

Fuel Issue on 60hp EFi mercury outboard

Engine gets little use maybe 20 hours per year since new. The last time we had it out heading back to the dock the engine stumbled like it was out of fuel. We covered and I went home and since then my FIL tried to start it, crank but no start. No fuel in the fuel filter. I checked all fuses they...

    Just hit 200k 2007 CRV

Just hit 200,000 miles this morning. We bought this car brand new in June of 2007. She survived a deer strike back in November and brought both of my children home from the hospital. The car is dry as a bone underneath and doesn’t burn significant amounts of oil, which is more than I can say...

Never ending project, a 9 year journey

This is a Slant arm Morris chair that I began 9 years ago. I have a very tiny basement workshop and used primarily hand tools to get this far. I was naive and ambitious and loved woodworking since I was a kid but I severely underestimated the difficulty of hand planing and cutting mortises in...

Hit a deer on the way to work

I was trying to avoid a huge traffic jam on my way in to work on Friday, so I took some back roads and out comes a doe. What’s annoying is that I already let my work know I was going to be late, and I had my first period prep as well. I just don’t like being late. Anyway the left headlight was...

Some interesting things from the Fair

Tools for pretty brave people. I saw these at the county fair today and I couldn’t imagine the saw on a pole and how comfortable that would be.

    Cardboard boat build

Busy building my kids a cardboard boat for a regatta in two weeks. My son did it last year and now my daughter is joining the crew. Should be fun. No paint or glue allowed just cardboard and lots and lots of mailing tape. Now the pats are going to be an issue. Can’t be bought or plastic. Last...

    Recommendations for gas handheld blower

My 10 year old tiny 23cc Hitachi blower gave up on me yesterday after cleaning up the sidewalk and yard. Shut off fine but when I went to restart it had little compression. I’ll take off the muffler and check the piston soon. But I fear the worst. I Was looking at the echo and STIHL offerings...

Ancient oil found in my FIL garage

Here is some old Super Tech I believe rated SJ. I convinced him to put it in the recycling jug, even the mowers are newer than this oil lol. I doubt it would hurt a mower but it was only 3/4 of a quart and opened.

How do you apply ATF/Acetone mix?

I got some mixed up and want to use it on some rusty parts what is your preferred method of dispensing/applying it? Right now it is in a glass jar. My friend also puts kerosene, lanolin and other goodies in his batch for gun cleaning.
