    Yellowstone Caldera

Hate to enlighten you to this, but, if you actually do the research, you'll find that ~100million years ago, most of the central and western United States forms a giant caldera. If this goes, there is a firm chance that only small celled organisms and those in deep ocean will survive. Great...

CT MM Nugold Motor Oil - for Canadians

Just did some digging, the Motomaster Motor Oil, called Nugold (in a black jug, gold lettering) is a Shell Canada product, pretty sure it's the same as the Formula Shell that is also sold. Just for anyone looking for a dino oil that is pretty good.

Petro Canada Oil Data Sheets (Syn and Dino)

So was digging around a bit and came across the Tech sheets for Petro-Canada motor oil. Both their synthetic and non-synthetic version. Interesting little bit, TBN's don't change between them, and there is a lot of similarities that go beyond, including Phosphorus, Sulfur, and even their...

Just a reminder to check your part numbers

So, quick background. I'm trying to get my hands on a Bosch Filter for a 2002 Ford Taurus SE (3.0, VIN code U) up here in Canada. Finally found someone who would order it in. Check the Bosch website, and got the two numbers of 3422 and 72143, but not showing exactly for my car, without asking...

Some Filtration Comparisons from the Bench

I would definitely be in for it. I'm still not fully sure as to what filters are working best in terms of air. Your work with oil filters has been amazing! I'm actually ordering in a Bosch Premium filter for my vehicle.

    amsoil graphs?

I believe the first graph is using their premium synthetic 5w30 auto oil. The bottom uses 10w30. Also, different oils are used in the testing, and I think (though I may be wrong) that they are examining two different things.

Its that time of year for freezing door locks

WD-40 works well for me. It displaces the water (hence WD) and thus doesn't freeze.

Oil Filters in Canada - P1 and Bosch

Just though I would put this out there for Canadians (specifically those in Edmonton) Trying to hunt down a Bosch filter after seeing river_rat's tests and that it compares extremely well to the Purolator P1. In Edmonton, I found that Dash Distributors carries the P1, but charge $13.21 for it...

Formula Shell Motor Oil - Help with numbers

Cool. Good to know. So far it's the most affordable (read cheapest) oil that I'm able to find so far, at $2.50 per litre. Anyone know of cheaper, but still quality, oil? I'm looking to stay with dino oil, as I'm still doing 3month/5000K OCI.

Formula Shell Motor Oil - Help with numbers

So, just to make sure my sleep deprived brain is thinking correctly, The MRV is an indication of how well the oil can be pumped at low temperatures. Thus, the lower the number corresponds to the less difficulty it is to pump at that temperature. So, as an example, the regular formula is 17201...

Formula Shell Motor Oil - Help with numbers

So hopefully I don't confuse too many people here with these numbers. I've recently been purchasing my engine oil from Costco Canada Warehouses. Cost is $2.50 per liter (quart) which is the most affordable I have found anywhere. So, after some research, found that it's a mineral oil blend...
