Fram Ultra vs Extra Engine Air Filter

I cannot speak for everyone. But, I believe this forum has always been about price vs performance. So, yes if I can go to my local Walmart and collect everything I need for routine maintenance and not break a sweat then that is what I will do. We are here (majority of us that is) because we want...

    Mobil1 Filter Design Change

I agree, it does have a framesque look about it. I don’t remember seeing any other ones like this before. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention. Who knows.

2006 Mazda 3 2.3L 94,000 miles, HM oil or nah?

Run whatever your wallet can afford and drive the car. In my Honda that has 243k miles, I run whatever I find. I've run all the HM oils you can think of, the only one that made a difference was Valvoline Maxlife HM. This past OC was Kirkland Signature, the next will be either Kirkland Signature...

    Mobil1 Filter Design Change

The other ones on the shelf looked like those, but the one I choose had different holes for the oil flow and had ALOT more of them.

    Mobil1 Filter Design Change

I went into AAP and pick up an OC and I was getting a Mobil1 oil filter and I noticed there were two different boxes for the same filter. I opened them up and noticed that the design of the two was different. Both of them were M1 110A, but the base plate was different and the body on one of them...

Well, if the oil can be priced competitively and works just as good as the other guys, I have no problem switching to it.

Those appear to be legitimate reasons. No, I never did a UOA on the car, this was before I really got into being an oil nerd. Have you had any cut down on oil burn? mine burned oil religiously and the VTC rattle was the worst sound known to man, and one of the reasons I let it go.

Looks good. What made you run an 0W-40 in the K20? I had an 07 SI and I rode it hard and put it up wet and never even considered moving off the 5w30, I ran it from 14xk miles to 200k miles and then sold it. These engines are not known to be hard on oil in the when mostly stock.

    Plant based engine oil

Just ran across Castrol new plant based engine oil on Amazon. The only cert it carries API SN PLUS and GF-5, which doesn't surprise me. Do you guy think this is the way of the future or something that will be on clearance by the end of the year? Amazon Link

Help me find a source for this Japanese oil

Cool. That was the best advice I could give, I did a quick search and ZERO came up. The only other option is to talk to a commercial store and see if they had a channel to special order it. Which you stated you have already done.

    Lexus IS F Engine @ 220k miles

How many of these YouTube racers do you know that do UOA's? Also, if track time = short trip DD, then we drive completely different. On a typical short trip on any of my cars I almost never redline it. But hey, to each their own.

This video shows what the inside of an Lexus engine looks like after 220k hard miles. I think you'll be shocked by what you will see, go to the 13:50 mark in the video to see the engine.
