Shooting for 10,000 mile OCI with GC this time

Whatcha talking 'bout Willis? (err, Eiron) Sure, GC can do it on its own! My dad is currently 8,500 miles into a 10,000 mile interval on GC. Next run will be 15K.

    RedLine 5w-30, 8250 mi, '03 Audi A4 1.8T

I dunno, I've read that with Redline, higher metals and lower TBN are both acceptable? There was a Redline UOA on here a while back with a TBN of ZERO!

    Mobil 1 15w-50

I think 15W-50 has more ZDDP not because it needs it, but rather because it's permitted; the other viscosities are restricted to lower levels based on ILSAC GF-3 (or is it API SL?) spec.

    Delvac 1/TFOUT Test ASTM D-4742

Anyone know what the ASTM D-4742 results are for Delvac 1 in its current CI-4 formulation? (Or other "long life/extended drain" oils like GC, M1 0W-40, Amsoil) For D1, all I could find was 905 (CG) and 829 (CH) in this thread. (For comparison, Castrol GTX 5W-30 is 163, and M1 5W-30 is 368)...

    No inner support tube?(Toyota filter).

For the 2003 Corolla at least, Walmart's Supertech filter is very good. It's a traditional Champion Labs filter with metal parts, and a normal, rubber-sealed bypass valve (NOT clicker type). All at a great price. See if the 2004 Corolla filter fitment is the same, I think it is...

10k Delvac 1 no add no filter 4.0 jeep

If you e-mail them they might still be able to run a TBN... great UOA btw! Nice reduction in wear.

    03 SAAB 9³ - SAAB 0W-30 turbo oil

probably has to do with the 0.8 fuel dilution, which is no biggie. great report!

OCI for 2000 Acura 3.2 TL

Yep, you can do 7,500 mile OCIs with M1 5W-30 with confidence. One of the beauties of that viscosity is that you can buy 5 quart jugs at Walmart for only $20!

Clearing something up re Mobil 1 and oxidation thickening

Any similar info on Delvac 1/M1 5W-40? Haven't seen too many UOAs on D1, but in one turbo SAAB UOA it sheared some (to 13.9 cSt), just like M1 0W-40. Probably not a big deal? Gonna try Delvac 1 in my SAAB turbo this summer...

    M1 15W-50 mix, '90 Saab 900, 2.0L N/A, 13+ months/6,500 miles

Fantastic! Wow! Pb=0 -- drool! The normally aspirated SAAB engines sure are a lot easier on oil than their turbocharged counterparts... TBN=8.5 after 13.5 months and 6,500 miles of short trips, wow!!!

Shear stable so far: 3,000 miles on GC in a 2002 SAAB 9-5 Aero (high output turbo)

CosmicFlash: Yes, I *thought* the factory fill was M1 0W-40 (at least that's what I've been told), but it looks more like the SAAB 0W-30.

LOL, for some reason that reminded me of these fellows:

Toyota does not recommend MMT- really an issue?

Yes, Europe has a different scale for gasoline octane -- their 98 octane [RON?] is sort of equivalent to our 93 [(RON+MON)/2]. And as for filling up before entering Canada, I've been told to do this as well... by my Canadian friends! Not so much to avoid the MMT, but mostly because gasoline is...

    Time for oil flow

Just a guesstimate, but 30 seconds should be more than adequate for your climate.

Shear stable so far: 3,000 miles on GC in a 2002 SAAB 9-5 Aero (high output turbo)

We shall see! In about a month we'll have a 10,000 mile GC sample from my dad's 528i.

Shear stable so far: 3,000 miles on GC in a 2002 SAAB 9-5 Aero (high output turbo)

Only about 3,000 miles on it so far, but the viscosity is close to when new (65.8 SUS versus 64.7 SUS). Some of that thinning is undoubtedly due to the 1.3% fuel dilution (lots of cold weather this winter, and perhaps insufficient oil warmup before sampling) Planning on running this oil 6,000...

Castrol Syntec vs. Mobil 1 Oil

Ahh, that valve noise at idle, I've heard that on a couple of Mitsubishis including my brother's '00 Eclipse V6 engine, which I believe is related to your Montero's V6. I solved it with Mobil 1 oil and an ACDelco oil filter (PF1127 I think, double check to make sure) When I tried a Wix oil...

Hard starts with Castrol Syntec 10w-40

I think it's probably not the oil, but there's one way to be sure--drain out the 10W-40 and refill with GC!

    '94 SAAB 9000 Turbo Aero, Mobil 1 10W-30, 10K interval

The averages I just quoted are for the 9-5, which uses a similar, but not identical 2.3L turbo SAAB engine... I found the UOA here and the Blackstone universal average for iron on the 9000T is higher--47! Lead averages 14 also. Fuel dilution was 0.8% on this UOA.
