Motorcraft, Trop Artic and Kendall OCI????

These are all very good oils for the money. And that may be the reason why the blends are even produced. Most people do not need synthetic and those that do have to cringe a bit at the prices. Most good dino like Havoline/Chevron, Superflo and Penz will do well in most applications and modern...

    hand tight......Right

All filters should be made like the excellent Nippon (for Hondas). They not only have a torque rating on the filter but if you don't have the wrench, they have 1 through 7 numbers printed and equally spaced around the filter. Once the seal hits metal, you twist the filter again until 5 numbers...

Dino Oil vs. Synthetic Blend vs. Synthetic

Regular dino in 99% of driving conditions if it is spiked with LC20. Best bet is a good name brand like Havoline/Chevron, Superflo, etc. Go by the auto manufacturer's weight and specifications and use the OLM if your car has one, or whatever OCI is recommended in the manual for your kind of...

    Why rotate and balance tires?

Great! I've gotten a lot of good opinions and experienced based ideas to my original question. I guess if you can get your tires rotated free and you find the time just do it. It might not do a whole lot of good but probably won't do any harm. But if you pay each time (every 7000 miles or so) it...

    Reading Havoline date codes.

The quarts I picked up at AutoZone had very faint dates at the upper part of the quart, in purple no less thereby making it twice as difficult to read. But look up there and you should see it. Mine read 5/24/05 and it was 5w20.

What washer/ring should I use with my Fumoto Valve

The only reason to use another washer is to position the valve where it is easiest to get to. My Honda requires the adaptor along with the valve. There should be a gasket between the pan and adapter and another gasket between the adapter and valve. My vehicle has the plug close to the exhaust...

    Why rotate and balance tires?

I started a thread a few months ago about the necessity of balancing your tires each time you rotate. Now, I'm wondering, assuming you detect no unusual wear or handling problems, why even rotate tires? I mean if there are things going on like vibrations it is probably indicitive of another...

GM Owners: GM Oil Life System -vs- Self Directed Mileage for OCI ?

Merlin64 - You are correct about the warranty. The 2006 Ridgeline came out well before their other new models (I bought mine in May) and all they had was their traditional 36K bumper to bumper warranty. However, I received a new warranty book the other day that extends the powertrain warranty to...

GM Owners: GM Oil Life System -vs- Self Directed Mileage for OCI ?

I'm going to go into this a bit because my new Honda has an OLM similar (I guess) to GMs. It calculates engine factors such as load, revolutions, temps, etc. as well as miles driven and makes assumptions as to oil life expectancy. I read somewhere where it also "penalizes" you for things like...

How do u fella's drain ur oil when it's HOT

I have emailed Fumoto several times and they have responded very quickly with good tips, advice and more than adequate answers to my questions. I have a Honda which requires the adapter due tot the reset pan and they told me the model number I needed. I also emailed them about gaskets and...

    Havoline 5w-30 + Lube Control

I plan on using Havoline 5W20 when it comes time to change my factory fill (Honda Ridgeline) and I am using LC20 and FP60 right now. I intend to continue to use these products because I need a little extra to get my oil to the 6 or 7 K mark (that is about when the OLM puts out the service due...

At what point do you top-off?

My vehicle is new and does not use oil. The OLM will probably not indicate an OC due until 7000 miles or so and I figure the oil consumption, if any, would be slight even up to that mileage. But lets say your vehicle does use a little oil between OCIs. When do you add oil? Do you top-off when...

    FP and clean tailpipe

The instructions say one ounce per 5 gallons of gas. What is this "initial shock treament" of a double dose for and all about?

How long will oil companies have to use the "Katrina" formulas before they can return to their normal brews?

What oil if I can't get Mobile?????

I have not seen Mobil 7500 in 5w20 - do they make it in that weight?

LC vs LC20 and treatment amount

I sent an email to LubeControl about this and they said 1oz per quart is correct. However, oil analysis will determine the very best amount to use for your specific engine. In other words, they indicated the amount used can be tweaked for maximum performance and protection.

What oil if I can't get Mobile?????

Not an answer to your question but Havoline 5W20 dino and LC (LubeControl20) should get you fairly close to the OCI you want, especially with a couple top-offs. If it must be synthetic I also have heard good things about Pennzoil but have never tried it.

    Mobil Clean 5000

From what I've read here, go ahead and spend a little extra for the Mobil 7500. It is suppose to have a much better pack and worth the modest increase in cost.

    Gas - Texaco = Chevron?

There is a thread asking about the difference, if any, between Exxon/Mobil gasoline. I read somewhere where Texaco gas is now being spiked with Techron, which heretofore was proprietary to Chevron, I think? In any event, are these two gasolines now the same thing? I know they are both good but...
