    Why would BMW recommend...

it had the ACEA certifications, but no SM. The reason I didnt get it was more so that it was old stock, BEFORE SM became standard. So I figured if this oil only carries an SL cert, that its pretty old.

    Why would BMW recommend...

If I do go back soon for w/e reason Ill surely snap a photo. I wanted to that day because I wasnt planning on getting the oil. But I wound up buying so I didnt take any photos. By the time I get back to walmart Im sure those 2 jugs would be sold... But if they arent Ill snap the photo. Now I...

    2004 Jaguar XJ8 Mobil 1 15w50 ... need some advice

SubLGT , it recommends no specific oil. It has a temperature range saying (off the top of my head) if temperatures exceed 10 below zero f to use a 5w30... and can use up to ,again not positive its been a while since I read the owners manual, up to a 10w40... well I just got finished changing...

    Why would BMW recommend...

Im assuring you, Mobil1 0w40 was in 5qt jugs at walmart. I had 2 jugs in my hand, reading the back and comparing it to 15w50. and it was SL rated... This was yesterday.

    Why would BMW recommend...

yea Im certain of it. I only passed on it because it was SL rated...which apparently makes no difference, but figured Id say it.

    Pennzoil Ultra Availability

That totals 17qts.... Buy 4 Jugs and you have enough for all your cars, with 3 qts remaining. Next oil change you can buy 3 jugs and use your leftover. Doesnt make sense to pay almost $8/qt when you can get it at the same store for less then $6.

    Shell's Business Model

I agree, NYC tortures a motoroil. And ages autos quicker then probably most anyother city with the exception of LA and similiar congested hot cities.

    2004 Jaguar XJ8 Mobil 1 15w50 ... need some advice

thanks nate on the pour point. the slight rattle at startup is due to the anti drainback valve on the filter. the car will sit for 14 plus hours before startup regularly. the chain tensioners were a problem on the 4.0s and not on the 4.2s. with the pureone filter it didnt do it with gtx 5w30...

    2004 Jaguar XJ8 Mobil 1 15w50 ... need some advice

yes thats true, but I would also be guessing that it isnt. I dont mean this to be a debate on oil temps. My cooling system is fine, will this 50w be near a 40 ? I picked this weight because I read its near a 40, I also drew the conclusion I need a heavier oil. Whether its to make me feel good...

    2004 Jaguar XJ8 Mobil 1 15w50 ... need some advice

so theres no truth to the 50 shearing down to a 40 ? I plan on finally stepping up to bi-annual changes regardless of miles. once in june, once in october. est annual mileage is 9-10k.

hmmm, walmart had the 0w40 but it was the old sl rated... I didnt mean to compare the 2 motors, just meant it as a reference point to the info on the oil. sorry for that. I dont know arkansas weather but here it gets 90+ regular with alot of humidity. surfaces temps get well over 100 degrees...

    2004 Jaguar XJ8 Mobil 1 15w50 ... need some advice

Hey all, I have a 2004 XJ8 w/79k miles located in NYC. I currently have PP 5w30 in the car w/ around 1700 miles. The 30 seems to be ,dare I say, "thin" . The motor seems to run very hot, and the compartment gets very hot as well. The coolant was flushed twice last year after purchase, all...

    M1 and Synpower not GF-5?

Not if their oil already meets those standards... For what anyone knows a "gf-6" so to speak isnt created yet, but when it is will require certain things that todays oils may already have. Im no oil pro but thats just simple to understand.
