I would not surprise me if both Valvoline and Mobil 1 were both GF5 approved oils now but just have not updated their labels. Then again?????????

The GF-5 website has indicated for some time that the first licensing for GF-5 would be the the 3rd Q. of this year. Check the site provided by Lubrizol.(Google GF-5) FWIW--Oldtommy

So is Shell being dishonest or jumping the gun saying PP and Ultra are GF-5?

Not really. Shell is being honest that they meet or exceed GF-5 specifications. They aren't claiming that they're a GF-5 approved oil, though.

Not if their oil already meets those standards... For what anyone knows a "gf-6" so to speak isnt created yet, but when it is will require certain things that todays oils may already have.

Im no oil pro but thats just simple to understand.

There should be better/more friction modification for GF-5 oils as the bar has been raised for that particular area.

The moly increased in M1 5W20 and 5W30 back in the spring (if you can believe Blackstone UOA). Considering thats an expensive add I doubt they did it for kicks and giggles.
