Shell's Business Model

I think Pennzoil should drop the 500K engine warranty (which is joke, IMO), and just warranty against any lubrication caused failures within a 15K OCI, with the obvious stipulations and exceptions.

I think a cool and different marketing enticement would be one free UOA from Pennzoil's lab of choice with your first purchase of Ultra to help determine extended OCI suitability, with results sent to both the owner and to Pennzoil.

Sounds expensive, but the UOA labs might love it as it could hook some people on UOA and it would definitely spread awareness of it.

I'm not an accountant, in case you can't tell.

How is Amsoil doing it then? Why are they growing every year?

Shell makes excellent oils, and in fact they have a better product line than King M1, but you have to admit there is truth to what I said.

People were changing their oil every 3k miles in the 1950's! LOL

No most people were changing their oil MORE often. Oils were worst, engines were worst, LEAD was in the fuel and worst of all it was a thing called a carburetor on the top of most engines.

Yeah but Bill, the sound of a Quadrejet wide open is music to my ears.

This is why Shell is so opposed to extended drains & why they have tied their engine warrantees to 4k changes. (They consider even 4000 mile changes a concession from their usual 3000 miles). Of course this puts them in the position of defending a position that's indefensible. For example, if 4k changes with Ultra are required for severe service, what about PP or PYB? Do these then require changes every 2k-3k miles? The whole concept is absurd....

+1. I made the commute from Valley Stream, to Long Island city 6 days a week for almost a year. Under those conditions, and the soccer mom weekend drives put me into severe service all the way. Just living on Long Island, NYC, of any of the boroughs puts you into severe service. I pass on extended drains, the few $ a year I'd save and the time spent changing the oil isn't worth it to me.

I wish there was a way to put a % on the additional wear and tear living in the NY metro area puts on a car. If I had to guess 1 NY metro mile is like 2-3 miles in some of the rural areas in the USA. JMO

NYC and Vegas are where they do a lot of motor oil testing.
