Wow, still on the first page! IIRC a member on here kindly sent me a can. Still have it--am loath to use it too much!

So we know gear oil can't be used in the crankcase

I think I may be confused as to nomenclature. In my world, a rear end and a differential are almost synonymous. More accurately, differentials are a superset of rear ends. What's the diff?

So we know gear oil can't be used in the crankcase

...for reasons discussed in gruesome detail in this forum. However, I am curious if the converse is also true? For example, say you took a PCMO or even HDEO and maybe put an additive in there, or just be crazy and add a dollop of EP grease to the mix. What would happen if you put something...

    McLaren's secret weapon

Yeah aren't the racing oils pretty much single weight? Why mess with multi-weight? Heck they use tyre warmers, it's reasonable to assume they heat the other mechanicals as well. Also, I bet it's more something along the lines of, they were using a 5w oil and switched to a 0w oil or something...

Rear diff oil for a 1988 Mercedes 420SEL?

Why the 110 upper bound? Cos it's an older car and it protects better?

Rear diff oil for a 1988 Mercedes 420SEL?

Hi all. Just lucked into this beaut and the manual simply states "Hypoid gear oil SAE90, 85W90." It's the same manual as for the 560 SEL and SEC, and for those cars the rear diff oil is "Hypoid gear oil SAE 90 for limited slip differential" So I think it's safe to assume that the limited slip...

    50% Nascar using Mobil 1

Where in the advertising does it say that the oil is used in the race cars? At that level they probably give the teams lots of free oil. There are lots of other vehicles in use in NASCAR--the transporters, the golf carts. Heck if even one member of the team puts the oil in their personal car...

    Top Fuel / F-1

Yep I've heard F1 uses very light straight weight oils, 10 & 20 sound right. I've heard as low as 0w or even 00w, but I think that was before the two weekend rule (what a ridiculous rule BTW).

    Nascar at it again

The engines are homologated like in F1. Blueprints have to be submitted and approved by NASCAR. The process takes months, sometimes years. The most recently approved engine gernerally has the advantage. If they just leave things alone, Chevy and/or Ford would create and engine that incorporates...

Yeah I saw that too. Food Lion had a similar strategy many years ago, I think the jury is still out on that one.

NHRA cuts race distance to 1000 feet

How lame! I say simply cancel all events at tracks with small runoffs, like Pomona & Englishtown. Yeah those tracks are historic but not as historic as the 1/4 mile!
