It's kind of hard to race an Olympic sailboat through a sea of algae.

Well, if China had sewage treatment plants and laws on fertilizer use, this wouldn't have happened.

Just as I suspected over a year ago, the Olympics were going to expose China as an environmental disaster.

Think of all the peasants hired to remove the stuff... The watershed effects of which could impact many.

Is there a market for algae anywhere??

Why do they bother picking it up, just spread some garlic powder, and have them peasants graze on it, it could solve world hunger, or just add lead and ship it here.

Word. I think it also shows the effect that developing nations can have on the Planet and eco-systems.

But seriously, I wonder if this algae could not be turned into something useful. Its obvious that it has nutritional value (If it were not intertwined with chinese poop). Since it is a plant it releases Oxygen into the air. Can it be burned? Turned into ethanol? Its unlikely that we are missing something here..but still...

Algae farms. Perhaps its time has come. Now if we can figure out a use. As a minimum the chinese could extract the green from it and make Lead-free green paint from itfor painting the toys they send to us.

See? China is just ahead of its time! Now all we need to do is rethink our current waste treatment methods ...deal with a few side effects ..and integrate organic solutions in different ways to make all this work.

Thanks, China!!! They have a waste byproduct that we pay large in investment to imitate.

"Phlogiston" ! Now there's a word I haven't seen in years. I wonder how many people know what it is (or what the scientific community thought that it was over a century ago).

Funny to see that again.

We continue to see the coverage that air pollution is getting at the Olympics. Its now clear that it will be the biggest story as these games are televised. Rather than help China, its going to showcase this environmental disaster.

I have thought about this post a number of times. Very prophetic.
