Fram PH9688 with 7,387 miles cut open

Even in the anti-Fram days of this site's history, people were a little more open minded than we see on other forums and especially on YouTube. On other sites, people still commonly claim Fram filters are the worst and some even try to claim they destroy engines. Of course no proof is ever...

Ultra8 3612908 (Nippon Filter) with 5,000 miles cut open

Here's an Ultra8 3612908 (Nippon Filter) purchased from NAPA with ~5,000 miles using NAPA Synthetic Blend 5w-20 from a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. Observations: The can is very thick and sturdy. It feels like a very well built filter, though there is no published efficiency data that I could find...

How did we survive before cabin air filters?

They definitely help protect the system, just like the HVAC filter in your house. Some seem to be more prone to catching crud than others... I have noticed some cabin air filters get dirty quickly and others stay clean twice as long. I believe older cars had a screen where the outside air is...

Fram Ultra vs. Hyundai OEM Oil Filter for Severe Service Schedule ?

I like the Fram Ultra, but it seems like a waste to use one for only 3,750 miles. So between the two I would go with the OE filter. Or, check your local NAPA to see if they have the Korean-made ProSelect filters for this application which aren't exactly like the OE but seem to be darn close and...

    New WIX 51334 design

I just picked up a WIX 51334 oil filter which said Made in South Korea on the package. It looks like production of this filter has moved to the Mann+Hummel factory where the OE filters for Hyundai and Kia are made. Construction looks nearly identical, except for the base plate which has 6 holes...

CarQuest now part of Advanced Auto

NAPA batteries are also sourced through East Penn, at least in some areas. O'Reilly sources from East Penn and Johnson Controls (who is selling their battery business). Advance seems to be using the CarQuest name as their house brand for parts, but they definitely changed some supplier...

Napa Pro Select 21334 - New design

Looks like the design of the Hyundai-Kia OE filter for sure, made by MANN+HUMMEL in South Korea. Even the inlet holes, gasket design, and plastic dust cover match with the Hyundai-Kia filter. Only difference visible is the paint on the can and lack of a Hyundai logo stamped on the bypass valve...

    Rock Auto

Rock Auto has been good for me. I'll still buy a lot of parts locally since I like to support the local economy and NAPA can usually get things next day if they aren't already in stock. However, Rock Auto provides a lot more choices if you're looking for a specific brand and sometimes the deals...
