    Rotella T versus GTX 20w50

Sounds like a Yamaha conspiracy to make that electronic shifter thingy seem like a better option.

    Subaru oil crush ring

My friend knows a guy whose cousin owned a '98 Impreza. One time he changed the oil without using a fresh crush washer. Later that night, he woke up in a hotel bathtub full of ice with one of his kidneys missing!

    Subaru oil crush ring

Plenty of people drive for years without a seat belt and never had a problem as well.

    Q Horspower Claims

You've been had by the marketing folks. Time for some critical thinking here. Saying "no other oil delivers more power" does not mean Q Horsepower delivers more power. It also is true if all oils deliver exactly the same power. Although their marketing people don't mind if you should happen to...

    Tire Siping

I'm with you on that part. Why would someone believe a dude in a tire shop knows better than the manufacturer's engineering team? The chances of doing harm is much higher than the chance of improving anything.

Subaru WRX - What mileage to do oil analysis

I don't claim to know much about oil, but I do know a little bit about logic and causation. There's an awful lot of superstition, mythology and illogical conclusions that float around on NAISOC as well as here. Mobil1 5w30 is probably the most widely used oil for WRX owners. So it makes sense...

Short trips - best change cycle?

My goodness, that's over 80 hours a year! Even if it were good for the engine (it's not) is it really worth the equivalent of 2 weeks vacation from work a year? The best thing to have a short warmup, and drive conservatively unless/until you've been going 15 or 20 minutes. Get a UOA from...

German Castrol 0W-30 has let me down!!!

It's certainly possible that the GC is causing this problem, but it seems so unlikely. It would have to be a seriously bad oil to cause such elevated lead in only 5k miles.

German Castrol 0W-30 has let me down!!!

Just an observation, the statement "GC has let me down" is not logical. There is no way to know if the oil caused the problem, had no effect on the problem or even if GC improved a situation that might have been worse.

Is there a website worse than Motul's?

To get back to the original post, yes Motul's website does indeed stink. Just like ... er, never mind.

    Motul 0w-40 E-Tech to be replaced by 0w-30 X-Lite

Has anyone found the X-Lite here here in the US? It's been a few months since this thread but I still don't see it on any online source.

Is there a website worse than Motul's?

Um, when was the last time you actually visited France? They treated me very nicely, thank you.

Is there a website worse than Motul's?

The French might not be good webmasters, but their women are hot. And french fries ... yum!

Elf Excellium DID 5W40 = Thumbs Down

That's bull doody. If this was a gallon of milk that you discovered was previously opened and someone drank out of it, would you be ok with the store giving you a pint to make up the difference? You paid for a new 5 liter jug and that's what they should send you. What's the more likely cause of...

rotate according to tread depth or circumference?

Oilyriser, is this a manual or automatic transmission? Subarus with automatics actually have a 90% front / 10% rear torque split under normal conditions. This would account for greater wear on the fronts. You didn't say how many miles since the last rotation, but perhaps it should be more...

    BFGOODRICH Traction t/a

I put them on my girlfriend's Escort and they significantly improved the overall handling. They're a very good performance tire for the money. Yes you should have them balanced on the gsp9700 if it's available.

    What`s the best highway/touring tires?

Comfort and long mileage can be mutually exclusive. Which is more important? How many miles do you drive in a year? Assuming you want comfort with reasonable performance befitting the 300ZX, I vote for the Pilot Exalto A/S. The Yokohama AVID V4S is also a great performance tire with very good...

    Buell goes liquid for 08

BMW and Aprilia have both outsourced their engine development to Rotax on several models. The F650 and RSV Mille are both fantastic bikes. I'm glad they went this route. People have been calling for Buell to use the The V-Rod engine but I think that would have been a mistake. It's a great...

    Subaru tire rotation

On my Subaru I rotate the fronts to the opposite rear, and the rears straight to the front. This way each tire ends up at each corner after 4 rotations. This requires all 4 corners to be up on jackstands. I believe manufacturers will recommend straight front to back if some models have...

Getting an '02 Honda Shadow 750: What Oil?

In theory the friction modifiers in a car oil could cause the wet clutch to slip. In practice, this never happens unless the clutch is starting to fail already. Many of us have been using Rotella or other car oils and I've not heard of anyone actually experiencing clutch slippage. And at $16 per...
