"Flushed" my transmission at home - a question

Hmmm... All very interesting comments. No Magnafine filter... What is that? ATF was definately NOT hot. It was on the warm side. I let it sit for about 30 minutes before doing the service. It was constantly over-filled by about 1 quart. If I pumped out 4 qts, I would add 5... And the...

"Flushed" my transmission at home - a question

2005 F150 with 4R75W transmission. I disconnected both lines at the aux trans cooler, and placed both lines in milk jugs. When I started the engine, I was only expecting fluid to come out of the return line. But to my surprise, fluid came out of both lines, at about the same rate. Just...

    Synthetic blend or full synthetic?

Here's a quote from one of my recent posts. Quote: 2005 F150 5.4 45,000 miles. Here are the oils I've tried: *Motorcraft 5w20 syn blend - Runs smooth, but has startup rattle, and a little noise when running. *Syntec 5w20 - Similiar to the MC, but overall noisier. *Amsoil ASM 0w20 - Even...

    Did MC 5w20 change?

I don't know the answer to your question... But I too have noticed how quickly the oil turns dark. I would like to also know the answer as to whether or not they've changed their formulation.

5w20 - Pennzoil dino OR Motorcraft Syn Blend?

Well, I ended up with the Pennzoil 5w20 dino. But it was an "impuse buy". I was in a local independant auto parts store just browsing, and to my surprise the Pennzoil dino oil was on sale for $0.99 per quart, with no rebates. So I got 7 quarts of it for just under $8 with tax. That's a few...

5w20 - Pennzoil dino OR Motorcraft Syn Blend?

What differences are there between the two oils (other than one being dino and the other synthetic blend)? 2005 F150 5.4 3v motor. 5000 mile OCI. Average driving conditions, with occasional towing once every 2-3 months (100 miles of towing each time). Basically, would the fact that the MC is...

Is it true that all 5w20 are at least a semi-syn?

I've heard/read on other forums that all 5w20 motor oils are at a minimum semi-synthetic. I know that the Motorcraft is semi-syn. But in looking at the bottle of other 5w20's, they don't all necessarilly say "semi-synthetic". So I'm thinking that they're just conventional dino oil. After all, if...

Do any local retailers carry Schaeffer oil?

I'm looking for someplace local that carries Schaeffer 5w20. Looking on their website, the closest is an hour away. Does anyone know if the big parts stores (Autozone, Pep Boys, etc) carry this stuff? I'm not big with buying online, I'd like to hold it in my hands befor buying :). I'm in the...

Anti seize on plugs or not

With the genius design of Ford's 3v 5.4 motor, you HAVE TO use nickel anti-seize on the spark plug shroud. Otherwise the plugs stick to the heads, and break off when you remove them.

Ford now using oil dye from factory?

Not too bad for a base engine. Especially considering the 1994 Ranger that I used to have only had 98 hp... It couldn't even get out of it's own way, let alone anyone else's way. That was one miserably under-powered vehicle.
