Are Chinese tires really that bad?

Although 9/32 tires sound good, depending on how junk or cheap of tires we’re talking about, I would disagree. Kumhos or something reputable, ok maybe I agree. We have 2 small tow trucks at my shop (f550 rollback and f550 wheel lift) 1 medium (f750), and 1 big wrecker for tractor trailers and...

What's your INSIDE the windshield cleaning routine?

I got a new windshield recently and am having a ton of trouble getting some kind of film off it…always shows in my early AM and late PM drives in the streetlights. Best I’ve gotten it so far was cleaning it with a magic eraser, then foaming window cleaner with 2 rags…1 initial then the...

Honda recalls, can I choose which one to repair or must all be addressed?

If it’s a safety recall I’m not sure a dealership is allowed to “skip” it. Call and ask a service advisor or manager first. Although the tech would love to skip it, it’s a dealers responsibility to run your vin and do any open recalls any time you’re in for service.

    Calling all Mazda owners esp.cx70/90

I’ve just read of engine removal being necessary for a few repairs that you wouldn’t think would be such a big deal. I don’t remember what they all were right now, but it was surprising. One of them may have been that it has a timing chain at the back? I may be wrong, but I’ve definitely read...

Most Dependable Mid - Size SUV ?

I feel like I saw an ad just this week or very recent that Mazda is offering hybrid powertrain for the cx5 or 50 (or both?).

    Calling all Mazda owners esp.cx70/90

I was under the impression a straight 6 would be good (Jeep 4.0 anyone?). But this thing looks like a nightmare to work on, and I’ve read the same.

    Calling all Mazda owners esp.cx70/90

They’ve been having some new car pains. We considered one and were anxious for them to come out…we were sorely disappointed when the local dealer got them in and we got to look at it. We didn’t even need a test drive. Odd layout, cramped interior, lack of cargo space. I know you didn’t say...

Are Chinese tires really that bad?

Kumhos aren’t a bad tire at all. They’re a good value tire. Sometimes I’ve experienced them get a bit noisy, and traction may fall off before you feel like the tread depth is low enough to call for replacement, but overall a good value tire, not one to be scared of.

Dodge Journey 2010 Leaking Anti Freeze

You usually replace the assembly as it’s all plastic, not just one part of it gets melted or warped…it’s all compromised. Either get the same thing and it’ll last about the same amount, or get an aftermarket “upgrade” or “fix-it” type part that’s aluminum and of questionable quality and hope it...

    P-1281 Code 02’ Dakota

That’s very normal for Chryslers of that era. Can’t tell you how many thermostats I’ve picked out in pieces from one. That should also use a typical thermostat gasket. I wouldn’t be using gasket maker on it unless the housing or surfaces are pitted so a gasket won’t seal.

Dodge Journey 2010 Leaking Anti Freeze

can’t be completely sure, but that looks like it’d be the thermostat housing and typically plastic housings just get replaced as an assembly. you don’t usually get new gaskets for that. I could be wrong, I’m not familiar with that vehicle or engine, just going off looks of your picture and my...

I’ve read of this happening on year or two old odysseys too unfortunately

Negative experience with EBC Ultimax2 Brake Pads

Glad I didn’t go with these after your review here. These pads were one I was leaning towards before I went with the advice of @The Critic and used advics.

    Post your latest brake job

My 2017 Mazda 6. 100k miles, 2nd brake job. Took off r1 concepts ceramic pads and geo-coated rotors. I was never happy with them, installed in 2021 and put about 45k on them. They didn’t have a good bite to them (ever, although cold bite was much worse) and the rotors developed a pulsation...

Are Chinese tires really that bad?

We typically only run Goodyears on our fleet due to some sort of agreement…but $ is tight and I think the sizes we needed for our rollback forced us to source tires locally. Our parts man knows nothing about vehicles so all he cared was the tire size and load rating, and to try to save a...

Change rear main seal while trans is off?

That’s a tough one. If they’re know to leak then definitely replace it. If they aren’t known to leak, I’d still be inclined to change it since you’re already there…but there’s a bit of room for human error. Someone here did a rear main (the shop did it for them) just because they were in there...

Poll: What do you think is the most "difficult" timing belt to service?

At the dealer I worked at we basically always did just timing and drive belts. We’d let the customer know when we were in there if they had any other concerns…leaks, pulleys, tensioners. This was on Hyundai and Subarus. Chryslers we sold the whole deal upfront because they almost always needed...

Continental will tell you if you email them. At least they have for me in the past.

TYC lights: regular vs CAPA certified?

Forgot to continue my rant. Too early in the morning. The second trip to get an oem bumper that insurance approved after I complained only came out to $20-40 more. That’s the same job done twice. “Cheaply” at first to satisfy insurance and save $. Then since I wasn’t happy, oem 2nd go round...
