Have tire pressures trended up to improve gas mileage?

It's many things... Higher speed limits across the country, speed = heat and heat is bad Heavier Vehicles = Heat and heat is bad Lower profile tires probably have a harder time dissipating heat which leads to higher pressures and lower load ratings to compensate The ford explorer debacle scared...

15 y/o 2stroke injection oil, Amsoil or Arctic APV

I have an 03 F7. Amsoil Dominator is what I have used since it was new. 8000 miles, never been opened up. Amsoil dominator is amber in color, never seen any amsoil with red dye. The older amsoil was dyed blue. I am partial to the amsoil dominator just because the 03's were a special breed...

How do you get full brake shoe contact with drum brakes?

Despite common belief, you will not increase stopping power by getting more of the shoe surface to contact the drum. I would simply wait for them to wear in rather than goofing around with it for no good reason. To keep things as simple as possible, 5 lbs of pressure from your right foot will...

What keeps vertical crankshaft engines from oil flooding while sitting?

unless you overfill or have the engine angled while sitting the oil in the sump should be lower than the cylinder

How quickly can a commercial plane land?

I would imagine a pilot would have a different perception of how any of those other guys conduct themselves but for a non-pilot, engineer, I appreciate the facts based approach Mentour Pilot uses without the sensationalism you see with other shows.

How quickly can a commercial plane land?

Look up Mentour Pilot on youtube, you'll never watch that trash show (in comparison) again.

Brake slider pin's : installed pushed in or out ?

Have you ever taken a brake caliper a part where there was still air pressure trying to push the pin out?..... Exactly! Don't over-think this. I like to burp mine for no other reason other than the calipers are easier to install when the pins aren't trying to eject themselves and stretching...

    dangerous trailer loading

I went to college in Grand Forks, ND and worked in the lumber yard at Menards during the 2009 recession. At that time the exchange rate with the Canadian dollar was pretty much 1:1 with our dollar, I can't tell you how many Canadians would come down with single axle snowmobile trailer (GVWR...

Stumped. Club cadet dies after 20 min

Most likely the surging with no load is a lean condition. Hopefully the carb has a fuel mixture screw for adjustment otherwise the pilot jets will need to be swapped.

2025 Ram 1500 SST Engine Tear Down

I agree, those cylinder walls look toast. There was definitely more going on with that engine.

One of my home nurses has 35,000 miles on her oil change!

You've obviously never endured the unfortunate situation of handling people with zero personal responsibility. The kind of people that look to synthesize blame onto other people for their personal failures. You're lucky.

One of my home nurses has 35,000 miles on her oil change!

My advice would be to just recommend the oil change, and remind the person if the engine fails it will cost her way more in the long run. Sometimes the only way people will learn is the hard way. Go ahead and buy her an oil change but guess what, chances are when it becomes 5k down the road...

Got water well up and running, not good.

You're probably better off for it. You don't want to know what's been found floating in municipal water towers, they have to be vented... animals, bugs, etc, stuff gets in.... That is the main reason they add chlorine. Then there's the fluoride which is controversial

    Inconsistent Dipstick levels lol

I remember years ago a buddy of mine convincing me and other people his dipstick "didn't work right" he eventually spun a bearing on one car and wrecked the engine in his truck and both times due to low oil and both times he mentioned his dipstick not ever reading correctly, or that it's "always...

Raising compression on LS1 and other C5 mods over winter

What heads do you have now? 241's? I would consider looking for some 243's and leaving the deck alone other than a cleanup job. If I recall the LS6 243's will get you to 10.5 to 10.8-1 by themselves as well as more flow. I would look into some thinner head gaskets, there's a few choices out...

Can you total a truck with a flat tire?

Oh man! Same tires as my trail boss. How many miles? My door jam calls out 41 psi in these tires, I typically keep them about 43-44 cold. On 90 degree days like today I saw them run up to 48 psi with a good amount of weight in the bed and towing a light trailer

Outside tire wear, but alignment shop says it is within spec. How?

I think the OP is a hammer in search of a nail. Those tires look fine to me. How many miles did it take for them to look like they do?

Big Boy Locomotive Came to Nor Cal.

10 years ago... if it was a UP steamer would have been either the 3985 Challenger 4-6-6-4 or the 884 a higher speed 4-8-4 configuration. Both are incredibly impressive in their own right. The 884 with it's 80" drivers is incredible to see in real life as well. The 4014 has only been restored...
