Thanks. VW doesn't specify the weight of the oil. Maybe I'll have to have it sent out and see what it contains.

I know these transmissions have issues with 3rd gear and the diff. A lot of times they shed teeth, grind 3rd, or blow the diff apart and a hole through the case. I'm not sure what is causing these failures, but I would rather try and do something about it if its lubrication related or not.

From the factory the Rabbits get full synthetic oil for this manual trans. It takes 1.9 liters of fluid. VW says this is a lifetime fill oil (say the same thing with their auto transmissions) but I have a hard time swallowing that. Any recommendations for fluid change? I'm sure if there is a...

Every time I used or put fram filters in the jeeps I work on, the oil pressure reaches VERY low limits when idling hot. Has nothing to do with oil or oil viscosity...ONLY the [censored] Fram filter. I liked purolator or napa filters in the jeeps, the pressure stayed good.

I have the 2.5 in my Rabbit. GC is 502 spec oil and I use it in mine. Good oil!

Do some voltage drop tests. Start the car and put lots of loads on. Headlights, rear defogger, a/c on max, etc. Put your voltage meter positive lead on the + battery and the negative lead on the + alternator connection. You should have less than a volt of drop.
