    0W-20 required for emissions certification

reduced emissions and cold start wear.. no doubt. I think there are trade-offs for such low vis oils. Based on the OCI recommendations for my Sienna, I question the TGMO's ability to protect at higher operating loads/speeds. Why should having a roof rack installed cut the Toyota recommended OCI...

Toyota claims 10K Synth vs 5K Conv

My 2011 Sienna 3.5L is approved for 10k intervals with 0w-20 as long as you don't tow or use a roof mounted storage box. In those cases, you are only good for 5k miles. The interval disclaimers seem a little too sensitive. I'm splitting the difference.

    TGMO,HGMO, PP, QSUD or M1 0W-20?

Holy moly! Nice VI as well. The Japanese OEM branded oils seem to have pretty high moly across the board. I'm guessing that they have a good reason for this formulation. They've developed the high VI 0w20 for Japanese domestic and California Emissions.

    0w20 Specifications

I partially answered my own question in another thread. It took me a week to piece it together. The 0w20 oil is there to meet CARB SULEV emissions levels, the higher the VI, the better. The Japanese are focusing on this because they rely on California for a large % of their sales (and they have...

Reply from Mazda regarding 0w20 Requirements

I'm 99.9% sure the insistence by Mazda (and other OEMs) for using a 0w20 is to meet the certified emissions levels rather than any durability requirement. To be certified at the lowest levels of emissions, the auto OEM's have to show that they're meeting those requirements in the field.. so they...

tig1, yes, I am putting stock into it. I live in a cooler climate and the reduced losses during warmup helps fuel economy.

interesting responses. thanks! In general, I am a fan of SOPUS products and I would like to try PP 0w20. I can get it for $8.50/qt, similar to the TGMO +/-. I'm not sure which I will go with but I have had really good luck with PU in my other vehicles. I may go that route and have it checked...

First time poster.. lot's of good discussion and information on here! I have decided to start doing my own work now that my Sienna is off of the Toyota free maintenance plan and looking for the best oil for a 10k interval. Looking through all of the information on here, I have a question...
