I don't see any downside to using VRP. Even if the engine doesn't need to be restored, it definitely needs to be protected.

This is what is currently in my Jetta. It's the least expensive oil I can find that has the 508 approval.

I think it's engine specific. For example I have seen people.talking about it happening to the Hyundai 1.6 turbo, but the VW tsi engines don't have that problem.

It's a combination of factors depending on the engine and the use case.

I live in a big city and I do mine by paying the folks at the shop. I use a shop that I trust. They use Motul for the euro vehicles (I have a VW).

I had a 2017 Forte with that same engine. I didn't know about the problems with the NU engines until after I got mine. I wanted to dump it, but I bought it in 2020 right before the market went haywire. Then in 2023 the Kia Boyz tried to steal it. After I got it fixed I had to move on from it.

I have had the experience of having the ice rip the rubber part of the wiper blade when I lifted it to clear the windshield. It wasn't a good time.

If it runs well and doesn't burn oil then what you have been doing works. It doesn't seem there is anything to gain by changing the routine now.

I think about this thread every time I check my oil. The dipstick in my Jetta is black, so you can't really tell anything from a picture of it.
