I thought this sample has come out very good for such an older car. I was worried about the thin oil in the Texas heat, high speeds, and an older engine. But everything seems great. I changed to 5w-30 Mobil One for the new oil, but if I could have seen this sample report before I may not have felt the need to do such a thing, as 5w-20 is what Acura recommends.

During this sample the spark plugs were changed (seems they had a lot of life though), the air filter replaced, and the PCV replaced with an OEM new one. The throttle body was also given a light cleaning before I realized this could damage the electronics.

The oil life monitor in the dash was insisting on an oil change this time. Next time I think I will take the advice of the good people at Blackstone and go for a longer interval on the oil.

This is my first used oil analysis on here so any comments would be appreciated.

Contratulations!! Excellent report and no make up oil. Look forward to 200,000+ miles.

Curious, have you owned this vehicle since new?

This was my father's car, he bought it new on Easter weekend in 2005 in California. He got a new car this November and it passed to me. I had another car with only a third the miles on it, but I could not let this car out of the family.

The car has had its previous oil change from a Honda/Acura specialist and it was an oem filter. The dealerships and specialist that did the oil changes along the way have used both Pennzoil Yellow Bottle and Mobil One from what I can recall. I can go back through the records though.

For the new oil I put a Fram Ultra filter on it and plan to use it for two oil changes.

I would go for a 7500 mile OCI--Not that I don't trust blackstone, but to see how much difference does it make. I have a 2014 Nissan Versa with the manual transmission. The dealer only used Mobil 1 Super and I've been putting in Mobil 1 full synthetic or EP ever since my oil changes at the dealer ran out. Im more of a DIY guy.

It's a really good run. No need to go to a 5W-30 with those results. How many months did you run it? Any top ups? 7500 max on oci. .02

Oil change was from 6/28/2016 to 4/9/2017, so nine months. There was no make-up oil added. In March I checked the oil while doing other maintenance, the level was exactly in the middle of the cross hatching.

When I emptied the used oil into a container for disposal it all fit into a 1 gallon antifreeze container, I was surprised by this as it takes 4.5 quarts. But with some small spillage in the oil change, old oil filter nearly full, and the container bulging in the middle I thought it was probably normal. I will try to pay more attention next time to the level before the change.
