ESP X2 0w20

Quote:
Confirming ExxonMobil’s position as a technology innovator, Mobil 1 ESP x2 0W-20 is the first of its kind to market and has been developed in direct response to the rigorous performance requirements of manufacturers, such as Volkswagen Group, Jaguar Land Rover and Porsche. The lubrication standards set by these OEMs far exceed the requirements set for previous 0W-20 products, and were previously only achievable with higher-viscosity products.

Nice press release. It says the oil is great, better, recommended.

It doesn't say how or why.

No facts...

Good PR though

Consequence of push for lower consumption, CO2, NoX reduction.
Good, will try after few years and cars who make 400K on that oil.

Not familiar with term "ESP"

is that extended x performance?

or something else?

When will this be available?

Will it be an SN oil?

ESP: Emission System Protection.
In EU used both in gas and diesel due to ULSG and ULSD. In the US use only in diesel due to high sulfur in gas.

Emission system protection.
It is Low-SAPS formula that is "friendly" to DPF (diesel particulars filter), SCR system (Selective catalyst reduction system-all modern diesels have) and EGR. It is good for gasoline too for catalyst converters, but due to high sulfur in the U.S. gas, low-SAPS oils are not recommended.

Karl Dums, Director Advanced Engineering Powertrain and Powertrain Strategy at Porsche said, "The low viscosity formulation of Mobil 1 ESP x2 0W-20 offers the compelling performance benefits demanded by our premium vehicles, as well as being capable of helping improve fuel efficiency for our drivers. This latest product innovation from our partners at ExxonMobil also helps us to meet the high expectations of Porsche owners in terms of engine protection, optimum engine efficiency and cleanliness, without compromising on performance".

Per XOM, the performance this oil offers was once only achievable with higher viscosity oils.

I don't understand why the New Life 0w40 and Turbo Diesel 0W-40 have the same specs yet are 'different' oils.
