ZF8 Aluminum Pan

After watching some of the anti-PPE vids I'm not convinced they're always the best choice. However I was looking for my Wrangler and need it to perform at severe angles.

I have no input on the BMW pan. Have you looked at the Turner? It seems to be a middle ground, depending upon your metric(s). I have no idea how "universal" these pans are

What did the videos say?

I'm planning future maintenance on the new Defender.

There will be no clearance issues using a larger pan and I like the idea of additional capacity, cooling fins, drain plug, and the ability to buy a filter from a local dealer.

I was not aware of the Turner pan, thanks

Doesn't seem to be worth it, since you replace the pan every time you change the fluid, and aftermarket ZF8 pans are cheap. It will take a long time for the PPE to pay for itself, longer than a Land Rover will ever last.

Yikes, that is definitely the BMW tax in place. My PPE pan for the Ram was less than $300. If it matters, I saw no change in temps going from plastic to aluminum even with deeper sump/2+ quart capacity increase.

Most aftermarket ZF8 pans are actually cheaper for BMW than for Chrysler/Mopar versions :sneaky:

Hopefully you are not talking about the Dorman aluminum pan. Not sure I would trust that.

Dorman is far from the only brand available, and while Dorman can be hit or miss, their transmission pans usually are good :)

And no, I wasn't talking about Dorman's aluminum pan, just regular plastic OE replacement pans.

If you buy MOPAR oem filter it pays for itself quick. But you're right, there are plenty of cheap aftermarket options now.

I noticed my X3M pan is metal while the B58 cars is plastic, not sure the difference really, I guess the M cars have higher power handling versions.

I would think the metal one would work fine especially since you're changing the filter (pickup) with it...

Usually the aluminum pans have a separately replaceable filter that is closer to $30 in cost. When I bought my PPE pan, the OEM plastic pan was $250. I think it may be cheaper now but that and the temperature reduction pushed me in the PPE direction. The temps did not change much but it should be stronger against road debris at least.

It also has a taco painted on it. Not sure why, but I'm sure that adds 5hp

Installed on a '15 BMW 328d. I was about to tell the owner it was so deep we'd have to trim his underbelly splash shield, but it made it....barely.

It seems to be a little deeper than stock, but not road grader PPE level. No idea who makes it for them.
