Yukon differential fluid change

How difficult is it to change the rear differential fluid in a 2005 Yukon XL.

It is very easy in my 1988 GMC Suburban, remove the fill plug, remove the 10 bolts, let it drain, replace the gasket, replace the bolts, refill and replace plug.

On the Yukon there is some additional suspension stuff near the differential.

What needs to be removed if anything to get the rear cover off to change the fluid ??? Or is there a drain plug ???

Harold, on all the GM trucks that I have serviced recently (1999 or later), I have found a drain plug on the bottom of the differential housing. I guess the only disadvantage of just draining and refilling (for me) is being able to see inside the housing to check for any wear metal or problems. Brian

Why change the diff oil in a brand new vehicle.

Yeah, I would also question a change right now since the newer GM's are coming from the factory with a synthetic gear oil. For me, I would just check the level and ride on the factory fluid during the warranty period, possibly changing it sooner if towing heavy loads often. Check the owner's manual.
