I have been doing semi synthetics that I brew up myself for about 200,000 miles on this car. I guess I am doing something right. I usually put two quarts of synthetic and four quarts dino in it. If it gets a quart low down the line, I might add a quart of dino. It consumes maybe a quart in 6000 miles.

All joking aside, I tend to make my own Semi Synthetic blend for my 2010 Fusion as well. My current fill, as well as my last one, is Pennzoil Ultra Platium 5w20, but that's because I was part of the Pennzoil study. Prior to that, I was mixing oils for my car, and they got me to 200k as well.
As a rule, I blend based on two factors:
- what time of year it is, and thus how hot/humid it is.
- what oils I have on hand
In summer, I tend to blend slightly heavier (less 5w20 and more 5w30 and/or 10w30), and in winter I tend to lean more towards 5w20.
I remember doing one fill that was in the heart of summer:
2 qts Valvoline NextGen Max-Life 5w30
2 qts Castrol SynBlend 5w20
1 qt Valvoline NextGen Conventional 5w20
1/2 quart Shell T6 5w40
While the engine specs 5w20, we regularly get up to 115+ degrees in summer, and most of my driving is highway, so I had no qualms about using that much 5w30 and even adding the 1/2 quart of 5w40. The engine loved it, and my UOA was absolutely awesome, with just over 200k on the engine.

My 460 powered 79 ford f350 got 1 five quart jug of supertech 10w40 and one quart of castrol syntech blend 20w50.
Why? Because it takes six quarts.
My lawn mower got one quart trop artic 10w30 and about a quart of castrol syntech blend 20w50.
Why? Because it takes about two quarts.
I really have no need for the 20w50. I bought it for the boat and decided 10w30 was plenty good and 20w50 in a 4.3 Chevy v6 just seemed silly.
Gotta use it up somehow.
Usually I just mix 1quart of trop artic 10w30 with 4 to 5 more quarts of trop artic 10w30.
Why? Because it takes six quarts.

My semi syn "witch brew" for the Cavalier is some Havoline syn 10w30 and Chevron Supreme 5w30

What about in tropical climate like mine ..... the other limbs come into picture ?
