Your favorite horror movie is...?

- X (Note: its a horror movie, but the title implies plenty and this movie stretches its R rating probably as far as it can go)
- Pearl (prequel to X... my advice is, watch Pearl first, then X, because it helps explain what is going on in X)

Not my favorites per se, but both were done pretty well that, if you're into the horror genre, you might want to check them out. (be advised......X can be a bit racy at times, as the title implies. Watch this one late at night when the kids wont come walking in.)

Killer Clowns from Outer Space - falls into the "so stupid, its actually entertaining" category

My favorites:
Jaws
The Exorcist
The Shining

Although I've seen them all too many times to really find them scary anymore, but I do enjoy them all. I'll watch any horror movie.

Did anybody notice the glaring continuity gap in the Christine clip (post #14)?

The wrecked car's front end is magically good as the boy's body reveals it at "show me".
Then, during the 'self-repair' the front end is back to being crashed in.

The bits I've seen of that movie were all uniformly dead slow.

I've never really been into horror movies as they are fake, and I just can't get scared...I guess.
Anyways, the only one that has ever left a lasting impression was Devil's Advocate - that was cool.

The Exorcist without a doubt. I was about 17 when I saw it and it was truly frightening. Probably the only reason I stayed for the whole thing was I found Linda Blair to be quite cute. Of course, not the parts when she was possessed!

Hellraiser, The Exorcist

Funny-Scary romps and B-movies: Re-Animator, Toxic Avenger, Basket case, Shocker, The Twilight Zone (RIP Vic Morrow), House, Poltergeist, Phantasm.
and of course, the Bruce Campbell movies, starting with Evil Dead

For the very mature adult I would recommend Ghost Story starring many of the great actors of the golden age.

Spice World

not really much of a Horror fan. I prefer a good Comedy, but in the Horror Genre, I'd have to go with Evil Dead/Evil Dead 2 ( basically the same move, just they re-did it with an actual film budget, instead of some Friends making a movie.) and By God i mean the Originals, not the recent remakes.
if Bruce Campbell isn't Ash Williams, I'm not interested.

I really used to love horror films. Now days its the zombie genre for me.

Here is my list of creepy horror films. (a few of them)
Halloween - the original, the sequels just watered down the original concept.
Friday the 13th - see above.
Texas chainsaw massacre. Cannibals and evil at that.
Nightmare on Elm Street - lost a little sleep over this one.
Psycho - I was a kid and this one was the king for the longest time
Carrie - loved it but hate it at the same time.
Visiting Hours- Michael Ironside was the bad guy in this one, pretty good even though its old.
Devils Advocate - creepy creepy creepy.
Smile- this is a new one and freaks me out.

There is a lot of inspiration for aspiring horror filmmakers to be found on BITOG, especially in Foods/Cooking/Beverages.

I never saw the Michael Meyers, or Freddy characters as anything but an easy target
Freddy kills people in their dreams, I don’t think you can stop him unless you can pull him out of the dream world into the physical world?

When I was younger I liked The Hills Have Eyes.

I got the villian wrong - I was thinking Jason Vorhees.

Freddy had super natural powers, but never seemed scary.

Curious.

A Thriller has an antagonist.
A Horror a monster of some sort.

Is a guy wearing a mask a monster?

I don’t really care for horror movies. That said John Carpenter’s version of The Thing is my hands down favorite. It’s a perfect blueprint for how a suspenseful horror film should be made.

Honorable mention goes to The Ring for a very personal reason. My dad, in true old person fashion was unwilling to give up his console TV with the wood cabinet. I can’t remember if he was still searching for a replacement or was trying to find someone to fix it, but in the interim he had bought a really crappy small portable set to tide him over. Once he had a big TV again I moved the little one into my old bedroom to have something to watch when I stayed over. This TV was pretty junky and had all sorts of issues. This is an important part of the story.

For those of you who don’t remember the central plot point of The Ring was a videotape. Spoiler alert. When you watched it your phone would ring and a voice on the other end would say “You have seven days.” Seven days later your TV would switch itself on and a creepy girl would crawl out of the static and murder you. Maybe a month or so after seeing the movie I was asleep in my old bedroom. Sometime around 3am I was jolted awake when that TV switched itself on to a screen of blaring static. I’m pretty sure some poo escaped…

Had a crush on her when I saw it as a little kid. I was about her same age.
