I was never a fan of Kubricks The Shining, but after I watched Doctor Sleep I gave it another shot.
It is horror. The book is killer good horror.

The Mist is a middling film with one of the most horrific plot twist endings I can remember.
Elf
Deliverance.....just kidding, great movie though.
The Omen, terrified me as a youngster.

The Shining i mostly psychological horror. The Thing is also good part psychological horror as is Psycho. Movies like Friday the 13th and Halloween are really slasher movies, a sub-genre of horror. The Exorcist is a supernatural horror movie. The lines between genres are often blurring. Making even a top-ten list is difficult.
And then there is the Number One schlock movie of all time: Suburban Sasquatch
The original buddy comedy presented as a romp down the river and through the woods.
Hard to single out my favorite. Jaws is a classic. Other ones I like are Alien, Event Horizon, and Sunshine.
Too many great ones to pick a favorite.

Nosferatu (1922) man it gives me the chills every time lol.
Then the ones that everyone laughs at me for is Paranormal Activity 1-6 haven’t seen the two newer ones yet. But I love movies like that. And to me they are actually quite spooky haha. Give me the chills in most parts.

Some friends and I went to see this when it came out. Afterwards, we were walking through a parking lot and all of a sudden a car turned on it's lights right beside us. All of us were climbing over each other trying to get away from it! Whoever was in the car probably got a good laugh and wondered why we reacted the way we did.

The gas station crash was awesome stunt work, no CGI.
