I've gotten it to pass with no EGR before by bolting a cat on and running it as rich as possible with the timing retarded but it's easier to pay someone to pass it.

I remember those days. Its not like that in Philly anymore. . .

A VERY WELL KNOWN truck inspector in Philadelphia was just arrested by the FBI for Manslaughter. He was passing 16 wheelers for 200 cash without looking at them. The truck killed people on the turnpike due to having NO brakes!!!! The driver told police he knew there where no brakes on it, and he had to down shift to stop all the time and then stall.

FBI waited infront of the guys shop untill he arrived.

So NO ONE is playing games anymore. . .

As much as I enjoy fast cars, I'm not a huge power nut, I'll probably get the V6.

I'm very tempted by it too, and will be more tempted once Ford puts a good V6 under that nice hood. Especially if it gets decent gas mileage for its power level (unlike the current V6).

Well this is smog and not safety. My car is still cleaner than those from the 60s and even if it wasn't, one car is so insignifigant that it doesn't matter. When you factor in that it gets driven once every few months, I don't feel guilty. This guy doesn't do it for anyone else.

Upgraded MAF on a stock or even 11 second car does nothing for power. K&N does little to nothing on a stock car. These cars are sensitive to temp changes and such. Answer me this, how does a 3,700lb car trap 105mph with 220rwhp?
You're right. A 220rwhp wouldn't even come close to a 100mph trap speed.

My '87 GT T-Top, about 3,300lbs, STOCK engine with underdrives, rated at 225HP FLYWHEEL would trap 99.9Mph.........\

Trapped 100.2 with electric fan and an aluminum driveshaft.......

Well, the original and probably most collectible of all fast/inexpensive combo would have to be the '68 Plymouth Roadrunner. Very potent 383 in a light (for its time) body with the cheapest bench-seat interior, rubber floor mats, radio delete, no A/C, and even heater delete as an option. And it LOOKED great, too!

More recently, I've got a soft spot for the FWD turbo Mopars from the old Omni GLH and GLHS through the Shadow and Sundance. Never really wanted to own one, but any 2.2 liter engine that can make a minivan run the quarter mile in the 12s then get 25 mpg on the drive home.... wow. Then there's the much more civilized Neon SRT-4, too.

Gotta give a nod to the 80s Turbo Buicks (Regal, GN, GNX). The latter weren't exactly "cheap," but they were the last cars ever built to meet the original Muscle Car forumla: Mid size, rear-drive, 2-door, ungodly fast.

And then there's the 80s- early 90s Fox-body Mustang. Pretty much the 'Swiss army knife' of Motorsports. No turbo, nothing complicated, just a strong 302 in a light chassis... and ENORMOUS aftermarket support.

Mark VIII's are like 3700-3800 pounds(can't remember exactly) and usually dyno around 225rwhp, and can trap around 95mph or so.

Since people have mentioned expensive cars such as EVO's, Corvette's, new Mustangs, WRX's im going to break the mold and say Saturn SC cars. Sure they're small and slow but they give great gas mileage. Plus you can pick one up for 5k.

^ This should be in the "beater" thread. The subject was "FAST yet inexpensive".

I guess that depends on one's definition of "Fast". Fast compared to a Fortwo? Or fast compared to a typical family car these days: Accord/Camry/Fusion V6s....

Hey cool, didn't realize this thread was still going... I'm thinking fast as in, puts up a good fight in stoplight wars. Faster than the new typical cars you got nowadays (TL, Cobalt SS, IS350, BMW, etc).

What's your definition?

That new Mustang GT500 looks like a slick ride. Sure can't beat its horsepower for the money off the lot.

I guess to meet the original criteria you would have to do a fair bit of turbo work to a saturn to get it into the 12's...
I'd think turboing an old SC2 would be alot cheaper than trying to get a V6 fwd family car into the 12's even though they are faster to begin with, even ignoring the new car's purchase price.

I think there was a saab for a couple years that had transverse V6 turbo motor but I imagine its a packaging nightmare to do this in an aftermarket kit or DIY...
