Your commute...let's hear about it!

It's been a while since we had a 'what's your work commute' thread.

I live in the suburbs, and commute 9 miles one-way to job in the downtown core. I'm about 0.5 miles from my highway on-ramp, and then its 7 miles highway to my off-ramp, and then about 1.5 miles into the city core. Highway portion is usually 'mostly' at 50-60 mph, but on bad traffic days, it crawls at 10-20mph.

Not a bad one at all, compared to some, I'm sure...you?

My commute is about 10 seconds... or whatever time it takes me to drag myself from the bedroom to another bedroom which is currently my home office.

I only drive part of the way to work.I have a 10 mile commute to a suburban rail station that's on a road with a 50 mph limit,a few traffic lights and,in the morning,usually has pretty clear traffic flow.Going home often isn't as clear.

I used to hit traffic, more traffic and more traffic.

Cited the right area to live, bought within my means, and now commute the opposite way. I drive a bit, go up a bridge and coast down. Drive a bit more. To go home, the reverse.

I have a 15 minute commute on a good day, and a 17 minute commute on a bad one.

My wife only drives 3 miles each way, so that has me thinking I probably need to stay at a 5000 mile OCI on the HL. Still debating in my head.

I have about 25 miles each way, 15 city/10 hwy, with a daycare dropoff in between. It's a bear.

My commute can be a short at 4.9 miles, depending on which route I take. I can completely stay off the highway if I choose (75-Central Expressway for you Dallasites who are familiar with that parking lot) and take all back roads.

If I'm feeling adventurous, I can add a few 10ths of a mile to the trip and take 75 to 190 Tollway. Most mornings, it's a tossup which gets me to work faster.

Used to be 210 miles round trip a day for a couple years.

Now it's roughly 2 miles to work, 1 mile to lunch, and 2 miles home. Lately I've been leaving the TL parked and driving the work truck home to avoid the hot/cold cycles.

Gas mileage has dropped from a 26mpg average with 31 on the freeway to 13mpg since the redlights are so messed up around here. My average speed over the course of this month is 17mph because I catch every single redlight and sit there for an entire cycle on the way to work and back. The 2 mile trip takes about 10-12 minutes. If I didn't have to worry about taking my laptop with me I would probably ride my bike.

29mi one way. 23 of that is hyway, the rest 45mph country road. I only have to do it 15x a month with my 12hr rotating shift, if there's no OT.

Cram that thing in a backpack and ride the bike. It'd take a lot more than that to get my car out of the garage!

Sounds like mine. 29 miles one way, 26 pure 80 mph highway and 3 miles neighborhood slow driving. Do it twice a day and takes about 30 minutes each way. I guess its really pretty easy on the Stang as far as warming up the fluids and charging the battery etc.

Sit in traffic the whole way. 4 miles and 20 minutes later I'm at work. Coming home at 10:30pm is usually pretty clear.

12.4 miles from my garage to the south parking lot at my building. 2.8 miles from my garage through town (35-55 mph with 3 stop lights and 1 stop sign), then all interstate at 70mph, down to 65 3 miles from work.

Through Oz bush and farmlands is fine by me (nearly bowled a couple of Roos on Monday 'though).

Until a week ago I would drive 50 miles of rural highway to work. Now I live .5 miles from the office. But I still managed to drive 75 miles today.

When I'm in Santa Cruz, it is 1.25 miles each way. I come home for lunch, so it is 5 miles a day.
When I'm in Tarija, it's 15 miles of open 2 lane through the mountains each way. I still come home for lunch, so its 60 miles a day.

I have a long drive to work. Its not bad though. 45 miles each way. Very scenic.

I leave my house and go 8 miles on country highway. I get on the interstate (I-10) and go 24 miles west. This takes me over Mobile Bay (a 10 mile bridge), which is very scenic and enjoyable. I then go through the tunnel under Mobile River, which is kinda scary because of traffic. After the tunnel I go through downtown Mobile (still on I-10), until I get to I-65. I go north on I-65 for 5 miles, then get off and go west through the city for 8 miles. Now Im at work.

In the morning it takes 45 minutes. In the afternoon it takes 55 minutes. The worst part of the journey is the 8 mile trek through the city. Everthing else is cake, set the cruise control and relax.

1.5 miles drive each way to the LIRR, 150' to the subway, then about 300' to the entrance of my building in Manhattan. Beats driving!

6-7 mile drive to the train, 35 miles on the train, then 1.5 miles to the office (CTA, building bus or walking).

Currently:
10 miles one-way. 6 lane surface street for 6 miles of mixed residential and industrial stoplight every 1/2 mile, speed 35~40. Then 3 miles of 8 lane 101 freeway, speed 45~55. lastly 1 mile commercial with 6 stoplights. takes 25 mins with decent traffic.

Usually:
12 miles one-way. 9 miles of 2 lane country road surrounded by hills and vegetable farms, speed ~60. 3 miles of residential/commercial, speed 35~45. 8 stoplights total. takes 20 mins, never any traffic.
