Change in Commute Should I change?

I used to commute about 55 miles per day mostly highway. 2017 Corolla and I had no issue pushing 7500-8500 miles per oil change. This would usually be every 5-6 months. Now my commute involves a couple miles to drop kids off first, then stop lights in town to the highway, then about an 8 mile run down the interstate to work. End of the day is about the same. One way, about 4 of the miles are traffic in town and 8 are highway (about 24 miles each day total). Then the usual weekend fun running errands around town and such.

I'm looking at 5k intervals now. That'll still be about every 5-6 months. I run only the highest quality oil (Kirkland Synthetic) and highest quality filters (FRAM Orange Can or SuperTech...whichever is in stock...).

Whaddya think? Should I lay awake at night worried? Push farther? Go less?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Me I'd drive it 6 months and change the oil take a used oil analysis and see where my TBN was. It might also be interesting to compare the wear metals if you have done used oil analysis before.

A fellow sophisticant.

Why change anything with the OCI? How did you arrive at your original number of 8000 +/-500? What does your manual state?

IMO, annual oil changes are more common than you might believe.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Plan sounds good to me. And while your trips are shorter, they still will adequately burn off moisture and contaminates. I think you'll be just fine.

But you're using SuperTech. Not the highest quality of oils from Costco. You get 2nd place 🫣

Have you changed the cvt fluid. That's the more important oil question.
At 60k. Doing again at 120k. I leave it to the Toyota techs. That 1.8L has so much torque and horsepower I'm surprised it hasn't shredded the transmission yet. Some people waste money on Corvettes when they could just buy a Corolla and have the same driving experience.

Sounds like the Kirkland is the perfect choice for your Corolla! I’d highly recommend Valvoline Restore and Protect for the Subaru. It completely cured my oil burning Outback that had gotten as bad as 3 quarts per 5k.
I get lazy and a coupon and it sometimes gets the Toyota oil at the dealer. About 50/50. Now that they've increased their prices a lot, I've done the last ones. Used to be $65. Now it's $110 😱

I was actually looking for opinions on the interval due to my driving change. But yeah, threw some humor in with my descriptions of the oil and filters I use. I've been thinking I'll just do it about every 6 months. That should be at least 5k but under 7k. So not complete click bait.
