Nick R's slightly older twin: I bought it new at the end of June. It was very fresh, with a build date of the beginning of June. They had to pull the wrapper off in order for me to test drive. It has the exact options as Nick's, except mine is not PZEV

I traded an 08 Sport Trac V8 because we needed something more economical (see other ride in sig). I drive 50 mi/day, so it made more sense to have 1 commuter car.

I'm currently making 30 mpg driving kids to school, and me to work. The Sport Trac made 17. Payment is a lot less on the Focus, but insurance is higher (heh?).

I plan to buy some dedicated winter/snow tires/wheels within the next few months.

I really like the SES model for the lack of chrome, nice wheels, and better handling. The ride is quite stiff compared to what I've had in a long time. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the 45 series tires.

I've changed the speakers throughout, and added a small 8" sub + amp. (Both are Arc Audio -- MADE IN USA!)

Ford is really making it more difficult to upgrade audio each model year. I will keep the factory head unit due to Sync (and looks).

Awesome! Have a feeling of Deja-Vu

Now I'm concerned though. I originally wasn't planning on replacing the tires/wheels for winter. Seems like it will be quite expensive. Are these tires really going to be THAT bad in winter? nice sound system there by the way. I won't be upgrading mine though- it is a million times better than the old car was.

How much was it ?

Sticker was same as Nick's: slightly over $20K. This does seems a lot for a Focus. You can option a Fiesta over $22K! Crazy if you ask me? Good thing Ford always offers huge rebates, extremely low financing, etc. Why not just lower the price to begin with?

I would have been interested in a Fusion S model, but there were none to be found.

I also test drove an Avenger SXT Express. They didn't want to deal. The Focus gets much better mileage, and has a slightly larger trunk. Avenger had more cabin room. Each has their trade-offs, but I think I made the better choice in the end.

What's your deductible on your insurance? Spend that much on used ugly small rims and snow tires, you won't regret it.

If you can't afford winter rims, coat those nice rims with grease and don't touch them till spring. We do it with the polished rims on the big trucks and it works great, looks awful though, lol. Grease will keep them from getting sandblasted from the sand on the roads and keeps the salt from getting into the aluminum pores.
