Who out there currently has XM satellite radio ? we got a 3 month free subscription when we purchased our new Honda. figured I would try it out for a year and went online to renew as per their instructions in a flyer they sent us. that was on 8-25-08 and our radio worked until this morning. checked out account online and it says free promo expired. well even though I am at work I called and talked to some guy ( very bad english btw ) and he said he would send a activation signal and to leave the unit powered up on channel 1 for 15 or 20 minutes, so I go and do this on my break. well still no luck, right before I came back I trying scrolling through channels as they suggested and I am still in preview mode. it looks like I wasted my break sitting in the car for nothing. tried to access my account online for kicks and it says they are updating my account and please be patient. what the heck are they updating, if it is not working LOL ! guess what I am getting at is this is not the start I am looking for dealing with them, very sad if you ask me. is this typical in dealing with XM ? right now I would like to call and just cancel the service, if it is going to be this much of a hassle. the CRV has a 6 disc cd changer, Am/ Fm radio and a port to plug in my Mp3 player. what say the Bitog masses ?

I've had XM for several years now. I don't own more than 5 CD's, nor do I own an MP3 player. I subscribe more for the news and talk, than I do music.

I like being able to ride for hours on the Goldwing, and never have to hunt for something to listen to.

Sounds like you are having a one-off situation of bad luck. IMO it would be worth it to get it sorted out... The programming is superb and very addicting if you can afford it.

Sirius just bought out XM recently and I have a Sirius radio. They have changed some of our stations around to accommodate the XM channels to merge them together. You get the best of both worlds IMO.

I have had my Sirius radio for about 3 years now and I absolutely love the thing and would never go back to conventional radio again.

As someone who spends a lot of time on the road for work, I really wouldn't know what to do without it.

They seem to only play music you want to hear and there is such a variety of channels that you can't get board with it IMO.

I like on the hard days I have had, I put on the comedy channels and laugh my way home.. Makes for a great way to finish a hard day and gives me something to look forward to after a stressful day.

I dunno if XM offers the same packages as the Sirius side, but with Sirius I bought a lifetime membership and now I don't pay a monthly bill ever. I have even had to swap my one radio because I damaged it and there was no charge for swapping and my lifetime membership still applies.

It's like the cost of 5 years up front, but I intend on keeping it forever and moving from vehicle to vehicle.

Just my $0.02 worth...

Has this company ever turned a profit?

Thanks for the input so far everybody. I did like the programming for the first 3 months and found a few stations that I really liked. I did not know about the http://www.xmradio.com/refresh link to try and reactivate the unit. sounds pretty much what the guy tried to do over the phone. will give that a shot when I get home and follow the directions that are listed . will keep every posted on how it went. might be just a glitch on their part but heading in to Sunday and your XM seemed to be turned off was not a good start to the day :o(

Was $500 USD I think.

I've had XM radio since 2002. I would have lost my sanity long ago without it. Word over warning on those activations and if you have an existing account and try to switch radios-I had a heck of a time when we got our Odyssey with XM. Since I was trading off my SAAB, I didn't need my Roadie II anymore. I called XM and had them transfer that line to the stock radio in the Odyssey. 3 mos later, I start getting letters from XM. They were warning my trial was up and they'd start charging me if I didn't call and cancel. I ignored since I knew I'd already taken care of it. I figured it was an internal glitch.

Well, last month I was in the Ody (wife's car) and realized XM didn't work. So I called up XM and asked why. They had NO record of me ever calling them and wanted to charge me for two grace months they'd given the radio. I complained that I HAD called and it wasn't my problem. They even wanted to charge me an activation fee for the new radio. I requested to speak to a supervisor and was put on hold for several minutes. When the cust serv rep got back on the line, she sheepishly apologized and wiped all charges and resent the activation signal.

So, lesson here: make SURE you're radio has been properly activated. And, sometimes hassling customer service works.

Well here is the update on the XM radio service issue. I tried the online signal sending link and waited for over 30 minutes and no change, still no service. I ended up calling to see what the deal was and they tell me that when I signed up online it did register as they have no record of my plan. sunny thing is they have my credit card number as I put it in to select a plan. told the girl that this was very poor service and got nothing but silence. she sounded like she was from the Phillipines ( sp ? ) told the girl to let management know they has a sale and they take care of the customers batter , again dead air LOL ! in the bag for at least a year and they did not offer anything except to sign me up for full price, pulllllleaze ! how much do you want to bet that I will see a charge on the credit card. man what a waste of a day with this company. they must be doing well as they can [censored] off prospective customers and turn them away like they are not needed. glad the people who have it like it but this was a real cluster ***k for me. well looks like I am back to cds and will have to fill up my MP3 player. great concept they have but their service and online support is the worst I have ever dealt with.

I pay $77/year for my XM radio. Luckily, I renewed my sub prior to the mandatory tax that kicked in recently. I think you have to be with the service for a year to get the special rate. The last 3 years have been this price.

Of course, you'll need to be transferred to another support tier for someone to take of your request for the reduced pricing. The initial person on the phone will NOT honor reduced rate requests.

Well at least somebody got taken care of. glad it is working out for you. really thought that this company might be taking care of customer service but they have sent it overseas to cut cost and lose revenue. suppose they do not have a lot of churn or else they would want to sway new customers to join, not give them them a hard time like they did with me. I know the place I work for will do what they can to keep customers and always looking for promotions to add new ones.

I also use XM for $77 a year on 2 vehicles.

XM isn't the service it once was given internet radio feeds that you can receive on most any cell phone nowadays. To me, since the merger, XM's strength is talk radio and MLB.

XM's strength for me has always been talk. I used to listen to "Fred" a bit. But they canned that in the merger. Mainly I just listen to FoxNews and occasionally Air America. Also like the Catholic Channel and EWTN. Sorry if that's RSP. Just stating my listening choices.

You don't have to be a member for a year to get the $77/year rate. All you have to do is have your membership lapse, in my case the 3 month free trial and then call XM and tell them that you heard about the $77/year special and after being transferred to another operator, she didn't even question it and gave it to me. They don't have a lifetime membership so I just asked if I could pay for 5 years at $77/year(5 years is the max with XM) and she was more than happy to do that. Just an FYI for future members.
