Xg3614

Just came across this post. I use this filter on my 1988 Evo. Been using it the past few years, it works just fine on my bike. Since Fram says it's good for 20k, I use it for 2 or 3 OCI's. I usually do my oil at about 3000 miles, depending on what I poured in last change. So i get about 10k out of this filter before I change it.

In fact I've used all kinds of filters over the years. Never had a problem, and I've owned the bike since new and over 200k.
We tend to overthink what to use in our bikes and cars I think. Use whatever floats your boat.

I think this coming summer I'll start using the XG3614 on my 2011 Road King because it's more of a PIA to change the filter on this bike. The location of the filter (horizontal mount) usually makes a bit of a mess. But I may have to paint it black. It's a Harley so it has to be black.

I'll use my WIX 51348XP filters on the 1988 because it's a lot easier to change it without a mess. It hangs vertically so I'll change it every OCI.

WIX XP filters are an exceptionally poor choice if you value good filtration.

I prefer a filter with the highest flow rate and least back pressure. Using a claimed 5 micron filter goes against my thinking IF this is not accounted for in a low oil pressure motorcycle engine designed with the proper bypass valve pressure. It very well maybe but I tend to look into things to much

How much "back pressure" (aka "delta-p") do you think most oil filters produce compared to the entire oiling system that a PD oil pump is forcing 5-6 GPM of oil through? ... It's not much with hot oil. Motorcycle engines can produce pretty high oil pressure too (60-80 PSI at high RPM). A motorcycle engine oil pump won't be putting out 10 GPM like a big V6 or V8 (probably more like 5-6 GPM max), so that helps cut doen on the filter delta-p.

My dad was on his way to the Ozarks last year for a 1,500 ride trip and decided to change the oil in his 2020 Road Glide himself. He drained the oil and removed the filter before realizing he didn’t had a new one. He used a FL910S motorcraft filter I had at the house. Ran the whole trip with it without any problems.

Considering that the 3614 size filter is used on V-8 engines with no
problems, there is plenty of flow rate even with high efficiency filters.
SuperTech filters, with the nylon center tube flow REAL well and the efficiency is
at least as good as OEM filters.

My 2¢

The eCore center tube doesn't make any huge difference in reducing flow delta-p. Probably less than 1 PSI difference. Nothing that's going to make the oil pump work differently.

All oil filters flow the same oil volume leaving the PD pump unless the pump hits pressure relief, which is hardly ever.

You could look at getting a Fram Titanium from Autozone, they are coated black with orange lettering.

By the way, thanks to @ZeeOSix mentioning this in some old thread, if you use FRAM's online tool for Parts Search they now include regular XG Ultra filters in the results for at least some popular motorcycles, so apparently FRAM thinks using regular car filters is OK on motorcycles. For example, my motorcycle returns both the XG6607 and the motorcycle-specific PH6017A filter. For me that's real handy since the XG6607 is the same one recommended for a couple of Subarus in the family.
