"...Is this the Veeblefetzer valve you are speaking of?"

Of course it is. It's not polite to brandish your raw intelligence.

As punishment....go check your oil level.

Me. i would change it

anytime i'm going on a long high speed run i love having fresh oil and filter with it's additive package cleaning and protecting the engine, it's my car and it's nothing to change the oil and i'm no tree hugger.

With only 3,000 miles on it, although I am somewhat like Malo above, I think with that mileage on the oil/filter, I would also leave it.
It's good oil and I think you will have nothing to worry about with only adding a couple more thousand on it.

As others have said, check it during your trip and be sure to bring a liter or so of extra if it is known to consume any?

Enjoy your trip.

Just because there was a seemingly obvious answer to the question posed in my initial post doesn’t mean there aren’t several members here that are genuinely struggling with a similar scenario at any given time. Yet, I suspect that a good portion of people who want advice on such issues decide not to ask for it because they worry they will be made to look foolish or somehow lacking in the requisite knowledge for forum membership merely by asking the question in the first place.

There was never much doubt in my mind which way I would end up going, as might be evidenced by the fact that I didn’t check responses to this thread until after already on the road. But I’ve been asked enough questions along the same lines as this by friends, coworkers, and friends of coworkers to know that the answer to this question and many like it are far from already decided in the minds of a lot of people out there....and on here as well.

TL;DR - Rhetorical questions make poor answers to guenuine inquiries.

Fair enough; my fault for posting in a hurry. Even a dino could do 5k, especially with all that highway.

Yeah, I've already got a belly full of that and the non-sensical construction zones around here.

My favorite so far is the temporary merge set up onto the interstate next to my hotel. The on-ramp leads you up to the edge of the far right lane on the interstate, which has been narrowed down to one lane in this section, and there they have put a yield sign for traffic trying to merge onto the interstate.

So what that has resulted in is a situation where a line of cars queues up in that "on-ramp", sitting still, and waiting on an opening in the line of cars traveling down the (single lane of) interstate. Then, once that opening presents itself, the lead car in the queue has to GAS IT to jump into that opening and continue on down the road.

As odd-ball as that is, I don't mind it too much, as it gives me a chance to practice my launches from a dead stop without spinning the tires. However, it completely breaks down when the lead car in the queue is being driven by a person beset by indecisiveness. By my count, they will allow at least 2 or 3 opportunities to get into the traffic line pass them by without doing anything to try to get in. After that, the incessant honking of those cars behind them usually forces them to make a decision and GO, GO, GO!!!

I haven't personally witnessed any accidents take place because of this idiocy, but I cannot imagine that none has happened from it yet...
