I love my 2014 WRX but it has been nothing but problems. I drive it modestly. I maintain it well. 22k miles = spun bearing. 26k miles = throw out bearing going bad and oil leak. It is my dream car so it is hard to say but I need something reliable. I was thinking about a Tacoma. Anyone out there have any evidence to sway me one way or the other? all input appreciated.

I don't think there's many trucks more reliable than a Tacoma. It's had pretty much the same drivetrain for over 10 years, and only improving.
Tundra seems to me as a better choice but likely alot more expensive. Were your repairs fixed under warranty?
WRX to Tacoma is quite the transition; why do you need a truck if all you stated you are missing in the WRX is reliability?
I switched from Mustangs to trucks a couple years ago... now I'm back in a Mustang "DD" for now but I do plan to retire it to a toy car in the next year and return to driving my truck... Its hard to pick an either or, especially if you have a house and family! Don't give up your sports car if you can avoid it, that's what I say!

If you buy new, physically watch dealer service verify ATF level if you buy an Auto trans model. All model years are known to be underserviced from the factory. Mine was about 3/4 qt low when I took mine in for a TSB that reflashed the tranny shift pattern shortly after I bought it. Take a look at Tacomaworld.com for some research on maintenance items/tasks, part longevity, upgrades you might be interested. The TRD models come with Bilstein 4600 series shocks and struts from the factory but those are quickly overwhelmed. Bilstein 5100's are the way to go. I like mine, glad I bought it.

How about a camry
My 1999 Tacoma had over 325,000 miles before it got totalled in a rear end collision. Replaced the clutch once, front brakes twice, & 2 batteries. Got a 2005 with 95,000 miles & did front brakes once & 1 battery. Besides tires & basic maintenance the trucks cost little money to run & have never broken down
If you want WRX levels of fun and driver involvement, with Toyota levels of borig reliability, there is one vehicle that fits the bill perfectly and gives you the best of both worlds.

I'd call or write Subaru and ask if they provide a 7yr/100k power train warranty on this vehicle as your confidence is shattered with this car and Subaru products. They may bite.
I would not get a Tacoma for reliability reasons alone as they ride miserably.

Tacoma would be my truck of choice if I ever decide to own a truck. It's honestly the only truck I'd ever consider.
What is the price difference between what you'd get for your WRX and what you'd pay for the Tacoma? I'm thinking it's substantial, it would pay for several repairs (maybe even rentals during repairs), and you'd be sad to move from a WRX to a light truck.
