So, in an attempt to finish my buddy Nate's combo as the cam grinder intended, today was time for a lifter swap.

He tore it down yesterday, I did the cam and lifters today. We replaced the ARP head bolts with ARP head studs. She should be buttoned back up tomorrow and hopefully running.

Here's what it looked like last year before disassembly:

And here are a couple pics of today's efforts:

Car details:

'85 Mustang GT, my friend bought it last year from a guy that was having issues with it. The shortblock was scrap (and that is why he was having issues, had the same shortblock rebuilt twice for it to continue to break after less than 2,000Km's) so we picked up a low mileage '88 shortblock on the way to pick up the car.

Combo is pretty basic:
-Stock '88 shortblock (90,000Km's on it)
-Trickflow Twisted Wedge heads
-Camshaft Innovations custom cam
-Trickflow roller rockers
-Comp billet double roller timing set
-1 3/4" BBK long-tube headers
-Edelbrock Victor Jr. (mildly ported) intake
-Holley HP750 carb
-MSD billet distributor
-Crane HI-6 ignition

Car has drag suspension, 3" exhaust, tubular K-member, South side controls arms, 4.10 gears, stock T-5 tranny, and the battery has been relocated to the trunk.

It went 12.2 (and 116Mph) for the previous owner when it broke with the wrong intake, and an un-tuned Holley 650 on it.

Once she's running again, we'll be out with the wideband trying to finish getting the carb sorted out. Then we get to start working on my beast finally, LOL!

We've run two oils in it at this point:

1. Delvac 1 5w40
2. Petro-Canada Duron-E 0w40

The oil that is going in it tomorrow:

Petro-Canada Duron-E 5w40. I bought a case of it for my car, so he got two 4L jugs off me today for use in his.

Donaldson SYNTEQ filter of course too

Yeah, we are thinking it should be WELL into the 11's and ~120Mph.

That's awesome! It's amazing what those Foxes can do with 300-350 rwhp.

I can't wait to get to work on my Fox...

Agreed.

This car is a blast, has Cobra brakes all around, so it stops as well as it goes. IIRC, it is ~2,800lbs with him in it.

He's got a few free dyno sessions at a local shop, so once we get the carb sorted out, we will have some actual numbers as to what it makes.

Funny thing is, it makes 15.5" of vacuum, and has almost-stock driving manners. Also isn't all that bad on fuel either.

I love seeing a Windsor all torn down for a performance build, gives me the tinglies.

Mod motors more so, but Windsors are so simplistic in their awesomeness.

A customer of mine is putting a new 5.0 into his fox body. I get all giddy when he calls to order more parts.

And by new 5.0 i mean the new 2011 DOHC one.

+1! I want one of those in my car. The only thing more monstrous than the engine is the cost to get one in there, though...

Agree. There's just something to be said for a Ford powered Ford.

Modulars are my favorite but I also love to see SBFs with a pair of aluminum heads.

MUCH lighter than the current pony (did he lighten the Fox even more??!), and all of the other go-fast suspension/drivetrain parts (road race or drag race) are less$$$. Win-win.

All the suspension is Maximum Motorsports, coilovers, PHB, Torque Arm, FRPP Cobra R brakes.
