I've now seen the Jeep Wrangler truck twice on the road in 2 months in two different cities 200 miles apart. Are these pre-production or prototype units, because they're not on the Jeep site.

It's a conversion kit, they call it the JK8.

Local dealer has had one for about a year and couldn't sell it, so they're using it as a parts delivery vehicle (no joke).

I'm assuming this is clearly different than a Wrangler with the removable top sections off. Kinda like an old Scrambler?

Cool if it is something Chryco is cooking up!

Those always look like a kit (and a bit of a cheesy one at that) to me. I think its the attempt at a rear window that ruins it for me. I guess that could be what the OP saw.

The two I have seen don't look kit carish at all. Both were running stock suspension and wheels on a body that was using the current Wrangler platform.

I saw this one at the Cleveland Auto Show this year:

Sorry pics aren't the greatest, took them on my iPhone and I was a little shaky. If you click on the photo it will take you to Flikr and you can have a little bigger photo to see.

They probably wanted an insane amount of money for it. I've seen just the kits go for $8k.
