WOW - Badly neglected engine...

I bought it when it was just a year old back in 2010. Guy must not have changed the oil too often. Was getting codes for the timing chain which would have been covered under the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, but after they pulled a valve cover, Cadillac said no warranty. Pay $2500 out pocket for the repair or $500 for the work done so far and tow it out of there. After some back and forth with the service manager we settled on one hour labor and I dragged it home.

I considered a Cadillac from about that vintage, a 2011 I think. Gorgeous car, 40-something miles on it and a perfect interior. It had a CEL but no one knew what it was unfortunately. I kick myself for not going home to get my scan tool even if just to see what the code was.

Yikes! That's impressively bad. Still love my 5.4L though.

Maybe I will borescope my engine to see what it looks like in the cam area. Nearly 200K miles of M1, I'm sure it's perfect.
I'm more curious what the timing chains are like. These engines can likely live a long time with religious oil changes but I saw even with 3k miles conventional oil changes my mom's 3.5 v6 Taurus needed a complete timing job at 240k when the water pump failed. It was to the point of a bad idle and a code set because the chains were stretched and tensioners maxed out. A mechanic I am friends with and used to work with bought it from them and fixed it. It's still going today but that was a major repair to fix the engine.
