I have rebuil a th350. that was many years ago. Also refurbished diesel injectors and make my own test stand out of a modified hydraulic car jack. rebuil power stearing boxes, pumps. one just has to be foolish enough to fail. My parts supplier said to me once, Yea you dont want to get a 23 dollar reseal kit for your rotating ball power stearing unit. Everyone that trys brings it back in a 5 gallon pail and says you were right. Mine went fine. The key? dont get interupted. Take notes. lay out how it comes apart. Take pictures. especially of the positions of everything. oh and clean before during and after the job. No dirt. One never knows. They might be trolling, or just not knowledgeable. One can argue all they want on this site--but I bet most of us couldn't rebuild an automatic transmission to save our lives. Where's the line between not enough knowledge and just right? Should one know how to balance the chemical reaction that occurs during combustion before being allowed to turn the key?
That said... pretty sad. Big investment, yet clueless on what is required to keep it running. Hopefully they just take it to the dealer every 5k.
I neglected to change the fuel filter on my 66 duramax as it didnot reach the milage. It rotted out the bottom and left me stranded. Replace it with time or milage.
