So after decades of using Maxlife ATF in dozens of cars, with no complaints. I did 1 drain and fill in our Kia with Amsoil fuel efficient ATF.
Wow what a difference.
I always liked Maxlife's quicker shifts - - - but in our Hyundai 8 speed and Kia 8 speed units I found the fluid to be a little "too" grabby. Especially during downshifts.

I tried Aisin and Idumitsu fluid - - 3-4 drain and fills and still not that great.
After 1 D/F in the Kia and Im sold. - - Very smooth shifting up and down.

I plan to do 4 D/F's in total for each vehicle with this new brew.
Just thought I would share for other Kia and Hyundai 8 speed owners.

What drain intervals do you plan with the Amsoil ATF?

Amsoil recommends to double manufacturer's severely service interval which for my 2024 Rav4 Prime XSE would be 60,000 miles X 2 = 120,000 miles.

Which 8 speed do you have and what vehicle? Is it DCT or a regular automatic? Our Carnival has the transverse (A8L?) 8 speed, and I’m thinking HPL green when I do the first ATF drain/fill. The factory fluid is SP4M-1.

We also have the carnival - - - - - That's the vehicle I used the Amsoil ATF in - - - - 1 drain and fill - - amazing - - - results.
I plan to do 4 D/F in total over the next few months.

Never liked the OEM fluid from the start - especially on cold mornings- - - tried max, aisin and Idemitsu - - - - all the same feel.

Thanks for the input! Question… when you do a drain/fill, how much fluid comes out? Do you level it with the level plug or just put back what came out? I have an OBD gauge app that I was going to use to level the fluid, as it’s supposed to be at 140F to set the level. That’s a very strange temperature haha.

About 3.75 quarts comes out. - - that will depend on the trans temp though.
yes the temp check is between 50-60 Celsius - - I usually go for 55c.

I don't level check anymore - - just let it drain on a slight incline for a few hours < no drips> and throw in almost 4 quarts.

Thank you, this is helpful. At how many miles did you do the first drain/fill and how did the fluid look?

Do these transmissions have some sort of issue with shift quality? That is a lot of fluid changes. What kind of mileage are on these?

I've been using Valvoline EP ATV in two different vehicles. It seems to be a very good product, nothing to complain about. Plus, you can pick it up for $31.99/gal if you look around.

So fancy Amsoil can basically go the standard interval per their recommendation? That's disappointing.

4 drain and fill sounds like lots of fancy new fluid being thrown away.

No not what Amsoil is saying
All of my cars Severe Interval = 0.5 * Normal Interval. Doubling severe puts me back at normal.

So I can do normal things for normal time or severe things for normal time. Unless outside the US and Canada. And then, do whatever you would normally do.
