Wouldn't 10w30 HDEO just be better and easier?

Thinking about all of my vehicles and OPE and wondering if 10w30 T5 in 5 gallon buckets or even a 30 gal barrel might be better?

Two 2GR-FEs (5w30) one 2AZ-FE (5w20) and one Honda 1.8L (5w20). Lawnmower, generator, power washer.

I am pretty sure all of these engines will run just fine on a 10w30. Why not just go bulk and buy a 30 gallon drum from a distributor and do away with all of the different flavor nonsense. I change all at 5000 miles anyway.

Thoughts?

I don't find it hard to keep 5 or 10 5-quart jugs of whatever handy.

There is no price savings to buying in bulk over 5qt jugs (or 4qt in your case)

I wouldn't put 10w30 HDEO in a newer Civic unless it severally used oil. I don't know how often you change oil but will that really make your life much simpler?

Yeah I see I get get the QS Syn blend 5w30 at WM for $16.47 for 5 quarts. That might be a better solution. I have just finally used up most of my oil stash and am thinking if I should change strategy. I am down to my last 4 5-qt jugs.

1 type of oil never seems to work out.

Agreed, one down fall of bulk oil, little hard to pick up a barrel and shake it because you WILL get additive settle out over time I've seen it many times before.

This. How long will it take you to use a huge bulk container of oil? Cheaper and easier to just buy a couple 5 quart jugs at Wal-mart when you need them.

Your engine may like diesel oil all the time. But I'll bet your catalytic converter won't like it all the time.

good point

No, that's a stupid point. That statement is just another BITOG Chicken Little, parroted, scripted response. T5 is a simple dual-rated HDEO that meets SM. I have a vehicle that was built when SJ was the current spec. Still has the original catalytic converters and "She just loves it" and "She just gobbles it up".

Are you people too lazy to do a little investigating? Or is it just too easy to copy what you read here once, right or wrong?

M1 10w30 HM (One of the closest PCMO's you'll find to T5)
Phos 1000
Zinc 1100

T5 (Recent UOA from a respected member)
Phos 1059
Zinc 1183

Shell Rotella® T5 Synthetic Blend Heavy Duty Engine Oil combines synthetic blend base oils and advanced additives to deliver excellent protection, even at low temperatures where the enhanced cold-flow properties help protect your engine. Shell Rotella® T5 is formulated and designed to energize the oil's performance and provides fuel economy benefits*, improved low-temperature flow, and delivers an advanced "Low-SAPS" formulation which helps control the blocking or poisoning of exhaust after-treatment devices.

So what is it exactly that the catalytic converters won't like?

SQUAWK! Polly wants another cracker!

Me too, I would have hit right after you.

I am off the opinion ZDDP and cats is entirely a non-issue as long as you are not burning oil.

Many Jeep 4.0 owners run Rotella and the like with great success, but most 4.0's do not use any oil either. At one point I had Rotella in every vehicle we owned, never a problem.

BINGO

! If it doesn't get into the cat in large quantities over a long time period you've got no problems. If it's an oil burner then it could be a problem. If manufactures didn't build cars and tell you that 750-1000 miles per quart is "normal" then this would be a moot point. This is so the new vehicle oil burners can get past the emission warranty period.
