So I’m trying to find one oil for all my equipment/vehicles, this way I can buy bulk and always have it on hand. The equipment/vehicle list is below with the manufacturers recommended oil. With the exception of the KTM and the snowblower I think I might run the Castrol Grand Prix for Motorcycle 10W40. I live in southern BC and see extreme temperatures from -25C to +35C and averages of -15C to +25C. I use the Grizzly 700 for plowing in the winter as well as the snow blower.
I’m not hard on my stuff, no mud bogging for the atvs, just trail. The most aggressive thing I do is plow a 30 foot driveway with light snow (not wet and heavy).
Questions:
1 Is the MA rating bad for small engines?
2 Is the Rotella Triple Protection 15W40 semi synthetic base? I’m asking this based on the oil temperature ranges that I found below.
3 I plan on doing oil changes once a year (maybe twice on the grizzly, it gets used the most), would one of the below oils be better for that?
4 What would you do?
Polaris 850 xp - PS-4 PLUS Performance Synthetic 2W-50:
“Mixing brands or using a non-recommended oil may cause serious engine damage. Always use the recommended oil. Never substitute or mix oil brands.”
Grizzly 700 - Use 10W-30 marked A.P.I service "SG” or higher, JASO standard MA
V-Star - Use SAE 10W-30 API Service SE, SF, SG, type or higher
KTM 690 - Use 10W-60 marked JASO T903 MA
Honda lawnmower GC 160 - Use 10W-30 marked A.P.I service "SJ" or later:
“Using non-detergent oil can shorten engine’s service life, and using 2-stroke oil can damage the engine.”
Karcher pressure washer GC190 (Honda) - Use 10W-30 marked A.P.I service "SJ" or later:
“Use 4-stroke automotive detergent oil.”
Craftsman Snow Blower (Tecumseh) - Use 5W-30 marked API service “SF”, “SE”, “SD”, “SC”
