would you patronize a restaurant that had you prepay or credit card before your meal?

I do once or twice a week at the “Filling Station” restaurant

You line up to the counter, order, pay and sit down

Slow service but good food

What I find more offensive is the giant 30% tip that is autotramatically highlighted on all the restaurants cash registers and kiosks with a minimum of 20%, if you want to pay a more reasonable table clearing fee of 15% on an extremely overpriced omelette for 2 people you have to jump through hoops to select it manually.

Maybe tipping is also a problem. Maybe alot of people walk out without tipping. They depend on tips more than wages

in Europe tipping is banned, should just pay them correctly and follow suit.

When I prepay for food (and tip) or do takeout where I drive up and get the food, sorry I don’t think a $10 tip for 2 people and 5 minutes of work makes sense. 15% is plenty in that circumstance, especially when buy an item that was $8 last year and has inflated 300%

30% up front on a buffet where I not only feed and bus myself
(yeah that’s a thing now)
I also find offensive

And to be honest the up front tip requirement with 30% highlighted is more offensive to me than leaving a tip after I eat.

Talk about … we overheard a young lady saying the guy who just left took her last tip … she was really upset.
We were done and just sipping tea (company meal) … sold told my guys to pull some cash out.
Then clicked the 22% on CC … Now another guy steps up and dropped $40 on $16 meal …
Left her smiling big … we were all just happy to eat inside again 😷

If a place is the type of establishment that presumes I’m a criminal who will skip out on a bill, I probably wouldn’t like the service, or the food.

I eat out often, pay cash, and tip well. Very well. At the Cavalier in Virginia Beach, the valets put my S600 out front...

So, a hypothetical place that wants to treat me like a future deadbeat by charging my card in advance?

No thanks. Mrs. Astro and I will find another place to patronize.

It‘s their loss, not mine.
I’m presumed a criminal at Walmart all the time. There’s a lady checking cart contents on the way out the door. One time I was chosen over a slightly older guy. He had beer. I had cat litter. Cat litter!

Oh yeah, they have them occasionally here. I never stop for them. Most of the time they don't pick me. One time they did ask me and I just kept walking and just waived my receipt at them without actually showing it to them. It's a waste of time.

I can see a reasonable hold on the card when you sit down, but how can you prepay the meal? Do they charge when I order drinks? Again when I order appetizers? Entrees? Dessert? My meals are dynamic with multiple orders-at different stages. If I am ordering at a counter and paying before I sit down, that’s a cafeteria, not a restaurant. Serving in Europe is a career, that pays a living wage. Automated tipping for take out is ridiculous and I have no problem jumping through hoops to round the machine up slightly or add a specific amount…or nothing.
