Would you eat "lab grown" meat?

There's a lot of background and education needed before the OP's broad question can be meaningfully addressed here.
Seems many have just a speck of info and a ton of opinion, skepticism and resistance.
Pass the ketchup, please.

Anyone recall, "I make very good eye", from Bladerunner?
How about Worthington Meat (soy fiber meat substitute)?
Coming across as a genius on the subject- please educate rather than toss

Didn't mean it like that.
It's just that one news story about a sales ban followed by "don't you think you've eaten it already?" and "I grew up on a farm and say no" posts points to people knowing very little about it beyond gut....unlike motor oil conversations here.

It's food.

Absolutely skepticism and resistance should be on HIGH. GRAS is NOT good enough.

I don't eat out anymore and wouldn't consume any "test tube" meat or anything which has bio engineered ingredients.

Someone mentioned Soylent green! Let's not forget Soylent yellow!
There was a day just for yellow bars.

We are not so far from this whole concept. And personally I would not mind drinking the vanilla shake either when my time is near:-) what a peaceful way.

I think some people on the thread might be confusing plant based imitation meat products with the so called lab grown meat.
Sure, but what is a “lab grown meat”? Labs are not producers. Like most things in the food industry, terminology is key and many things are done without any labels or consumer warnings. Consumers just naively assume it’s all safe if it’s allowed to be sold.

Same with all the “plant based meats”, somehow they never show how these things are actually produced. We just assume based on the name.
But how much is there plants and how much “other” stuff?

I agree, I just found out that if any type of meat is cut by a butcher they can put a USDA stamp on it.

Finally this is changing, the meat has to be raised and slaughtered here in the US
to get a USDA stamp.
I did read that in 2026 this will go into law.

I quit buying meat from Trader Joe's because every time I'd open up a package it would smell funny then I would read the origin. I should also mention that most of their food doesn't even show where it's coming from it just says packaged and marketed by Trader Joe's. They are completely changing as well. I'm beginning to boycott them fairly regularly

Sure why not? I already eat spam. I already eat eye round. I already eat meat that are glued together. Anything that the regulation tolerates the meat producers already lobbied for it in natural meat so whatever.

Honestly the bigger problem with meat is actually the cost and taste than whether it is lab grown or not.

Well I do my best to make sure that it was slaughtered here in the USA. I don't eat Spam, I don't eat reconstituted meat that means no fast food in general and same goes for chickens.

I do use Spam for a tire block on my car when I'm doing an oil change!

But in all seriousness anything with sodium nitrate I stay away from.
just my two cents here

My Hawaiian mother in law strongly objects to any disparagement of Spam, LOL.
Back in the 80s we shared a house and one of our renters was a Hawaiian guy, he was so Hawaiian that he had to fly to Hawaii every year because of his ancestral background. He loved spam! He would roll out that hot french bread with butter and a slice of spam.. that was some good stuff! We all used to eat really cheaply.

Anyone seen spam in most stores (Walmart, etc) in Hawaii? It's in plastic theft prevention holders.

Spam in now millionaire food. Went to the grocery store the other day and paid attention to the prices. Almost got a heart attack until I remember that with the high health care costs, I can't afford a heart attack either.

Wow, things have gone to pot over there, too. At least twenty five years ago, I was visiting Oahu and went to a Walgreens pharmacy to get some pictures printed. and noticed they were having a sale on Spam. There were three pallet sized stacks of it in the center isle and there were at least a dozen different flavors, most of which I'd never heard of like maple, BBQ, bacon, jalapeno, even cheese. When visiting the wife's relatives, I was served spam on multiple occasions, too. It's a staple over there, or at least it was back then.
