I went by the Audi dealer this morning to pick up some grill trim I'd ordered and I noticed that the $185,000 R8 Spyder that had been on the showroom floor was gone and in its place was what looked to be a brand new Bentley Continental GTC. I asked the sales person I dealt with for my trade if someone had traded the Bentley for the R8. She said they were trying to do a deal and the guy was out test driving the R8. About then, he drove up in the R8 and the sales manager escorted him into his office. Young guy.

The Bentley still had the temp plates on it from Bentley of Naples FL. The sales person said the car was brand new, had less than 300 miles on it, and the guy hated it. She just sent me an e-mail and said the deal was done and he got the R8.

I honestly wouldnt spend that kind of money on either of those cars. However just by looks, I do like the R8 better than the GTC.

+1 Astro. He hates it so much that he drove 300 miles from Fl to SC, turned right into an Audi dealer to get a new car? LOL.

I cant imagine the R8 will be more comfortable or a better driver... Higher performing I guess.

I personally dont really have interest in those kinds of vehicles. I cant readily afford to buy and swap them, but even if, while I love cars, those just dont do much for me.

And he couldn't have figured out that he would hate it during a test drive before he bought it? Let me guess, he bought it without ever setting foot in one.

I agree with Astro - the guy has more money than brains.

I'd never have bought the Bentley in the first place.

If I had bought it, and then had the opportunity to swap for another car, it wouldn't be an R8.

But if it had to be an R8, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Old people typically buy either car since they are more likely to afford.

However young and driving a Bentley you may as well marry a 75 year old woman instead of the 25 year old. Go for the sexy Audi.

If you got the money and not the time they deliver cars. My friend got his wife a slightly used R350 (diesel minivan) from your parts slightly used delivered by truck to his doorstep.

This almost sounds like a script from a reality TV show, or one of those old 1950's daytime shows for homemakers, like "Queen for a Day." We could call this "Car for a Day." But, a new car driven into another state with just 300 miles on the odo and temp plates? Sounds... peculiar.

Middle East oil money involved perhaps, as this probably happens in Dubai, etc, all the time.

I read in C&D recently you should be able to buy a few year old, lightly worn VW Phaeton V8 for under $17K - which is essentially a Bentley.

Yeah, I didn't notice the Naples FL dealer temp plate until after she said it had 300 miles on it. I guess she was just mistaken about the mileage.

This is the car he traded for.

I bought these cars without ever setting foot in one, until after I paid for it.

1986 Honda Accord LXi
2000 MB E430
2004 Honda S2000

Never regret about buying these cars without any test drive or sit in the cars to get a feeling about the cars.

The Phaeton and the Continental share the same platform. That's the extent of any similarity between these two cars.

Yes, but which one of them cost you $220,000?
