Would you change out this oil?

Last October I dumped the Quaker State Conventional 5w20 from my 2008 Ford Edge and put in Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20. The oil now has 5000 km (3100 miles) on it. Furthermore, the winter here has been very brutal so far and my vehicle has seen quite a few -35 C (-31 F) cold starts. I have been thinking about dumping this oil on the next fine day and putting in Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5W-20 for the remaining of the winter. Should I just leave it for another 2000 km or change it?

Leave it until the end of the winter, and then change for spring/summer.

3k is WAY to early to change a syn oil, no matter what the use.

I'd like to leave it in another 2000 km at least, but the abnormal amount of really cold starts with excessive warm-up idling has me concerned about the condition of the oil.

You can run the Plat for the remaining 2Kk.
This is a high TBN oil with good TBN retention.
It'll be fine.

When a question is asked like this the answer is GENERALLY, no, don't change it yet. Why? Most oils are not depleted when drained. Especially so with PP. PP lasts a long time.

+1!! No reason to change. Wait til spring so your new fill doesn't get water contaminantation and have to work with that all summer

From what ive learnt here, you have a great oil in there, its up to the job, and more. rest easy, PP's got it

I would feel safe running it at least 6 months/6000 miles, even with your harsh conditions.

Actually, I have a Mobil 1 filter on there.

I agree, Kev, I think you're fine. We've taken a pounding here, too, and as long as you get some heat into the oil once in a while, it'll help. Even if you were running an orange can this time, you'd still be fine.

For cold starts at -35C the 5W-20 oil is being pushed to the limit for cold pumpability. The only reason to change it would be to put in a 0W-20.

You will be fine to at least 5,000 miles. I'd take it to 7,500 on full synthetic.

Cold weather start-ups are exactly what synthetic is designed for.

I'm in Saskatchewan so I feel your pain. Run that oil 8000kms/5000 miles. That's a top quality oil and is fine in your weather conditions.
Because of extended idling times you will get some fuel dilution. Take the vehicle out for a 30 minute highway run once a week to evap any fuel that may get into the oil. That is sufficient to evaporate it out,and the oil will be good as almost new.
If you are going to run 5000km/3000 mile intervals don't bother with synthetic,a conventional is more than adequate for that interval unless its severe duty.
