Would you buy RP 0W-40 for $11.99 a qt at O'Reilly

I would not buy Royal Purple for $11.99 a quart...or even a dollar. For a tad less (or about the same w/shipping if you go mail order) you can get Redline - better oil.

.. $55 for my car WOW!

I could get the 0W benefit if there is any (?) wngine was made for 10W so how is there, and its 70 out here on the regular and will get hotter) AND will be a "40" in the older engine. That, or GC for "somewhat les" but RP.. Oooo!

It will either expose all my leaks or be fine !!!

Would YOU run this oil (RP oW-40) in YOUR car AND would you PAY the PRICE?

Similarly, its $8,49 for 5W-30 OR 10W_30 at Walmart, and again, im wondering if even THAT ids good.. but id likely get 0W_40 LOOL

No, at today's oil pricing I would not pay $12 a qt for any oil. I am a big RP user but that is too high. You can order it by the case online for approx $10 a qt including shipping( I literally just checked so I am speaking accurately )so I wouldn't pay $12 locally.

I would run the oil itself however if that was the weight I needed. RP oils are excellent. Find it at a better price and then use it with confidence.

I am sorry. I have tried to avoid getting into Amsoil vs RP stuff lately but this is ridiculous. Amsoil OE is not better than RP nor will it last as long. I don't care how big of an RP hater someone may be( not sayin the member I quoted is - general comment )and how big of an Amsoil fan they are you can not say Amsoil OE is a better product with any credibility. If you want to compare oils from the two companies let's be reasonable and compare the RP to ASM/ASL/SSO etc... which is the real competition to it. I might even accept comparing it to the new XL but OE? COME ON! Wow!

I tend to agree NH, but - and again - it comes down to the definition of "better". OE certainly isn't better when talking on paper, comparing specs and stuff. You know, what BITOGians do. OTOH, OE might be better for new car for 3K changes for the first 30K.

Anyways I'm getting used to people saying their favorites are better. Never really any proof, so it's pretty much like the results of a plate of beans on a windy day.

O'Reilly top tier oil prices are insane. It's pretty obvious they are hoping to prey on the mentally incapacitated. I'd just as soon buy my underwear at Saks 5th Ave, than buy top line oil at O'Reilly. Take the MSRP and tack on 25%. There you go!

Luckily the O guys aren't in this area... I'll keep on buying my M1 0W-40 at Advance when it's on sale... Got 12qts for $48 on the last I-net special...

I'd have no problem buying RP if it was on sale. What people fail to realize here is how many people buy oil at retail? Just about everyone waits for a deal on oil! I agree with HM Hemi, comparing RP to Amsoil OE is a mistake the two oils aren't even in the same league. RP is a much better oil IMO. At this point all it would be is someone's opinion since OE has yet to really prove itself in the real world.

Actually, I'd put Pennzoil Ultra 5w-40 in my crankcase before the M1!

I don't give a rat's a$$ how little or how often you change oil during a one year period; cost IS an issue when they are trying to rape you for $12 per quart!

I can take a photo of the shelf and clearly stated $11.99 if you wish

I will.........................................

No. No reason to when something else will do the job just as well for a lower price.

Now if I had a "toy" car that saw 1x/year oil changes and flogging in between, then maybe putting in $9/quart oil might make sense.

I just picked up 4 quarts of 0W-40 RP to throw in my ride. Very nice oil. Excellent startups and smooth running. Even being a royal purple fan I will not buy this again. It great.....if you can afford it. Honestly I just got it to try out and run some UOAs on for BITOG. After this OC no more. I'll be going back to my 5W-30 RP for $7.

Would we even be having this conversation if the OP asked about Redline or Amsoil? Or if he asked about the usual $8/quart M1 0w40? What about $15/quart Motul?

Ok let me say this differently.I was not comparing the two oils.I would for my applications use OE over RP due to pricing plus i don't do extended drains and often don't think about other people doing so,nothing wrong with RP products,i am using their Max Gear and Max ATF now and am happy with it.I should have made myself clear about my comments and not have left it so open ended. No offense intended.

? Not sure why those others would .. well i didnt see them on the shelf.

In other news, I spent $8.55 after tax on a quart of Castrol Syntec 5W-50, since i checked my oil level hot, and my car engine smokes a littl ee even though it runs perfect (maybe its the hole inthe exause by the oil pan, idk) and topped up a half a quart, whether i needed to or not.

[censored] no!

I'd go find Red Line 0W-40 somewhere on the 'net for ~$2 a quart cheaper or go with M1 0W-40 at Wal-Mart for, what, $5 a quart cheaper?

Nothing against RP, that's just a lot of money per quart and there's probably a lot better deals on that oil if you shop around.

I think thats the kicker, you ahve to wait for it to come to yoru house!!!!

Again, i bought $8.55 on Syntec 5W-50 to top off an engine that likely had nothin wrong with it but smoke coming "up the engine bay due to confirmed exhaust leak from 6 inches away from oil pan, perhaps causing the smoke/stema/idk i see"

If i needed aboutiquue oil beyond Walmart's 5S-30 and 10W-30 they have RP for $8something, id get this
and its also worth noting "Royal Purple web site says Walmart has RoyalPurple without their approval"

For me, yes. I wouldn't pay that much for RL or AMS either when they can be had for a good bit cheaper.
