Would HPL EC clean this up?

Driver side valve cover gasket on the 05 Suburban has been seeping for a little bit. Changed it Saturday, the gasket was hard as a rock. It was whatever gasket was on the updated Dorman PCV valve cover.

Below is a picture of the valvetrain. There is approximately 250k on this Flex 5.3 L59. I have figured the first 200k of this thing's life it received your usual oil change shop fare in Texas. I run M1 FS 0W-40. I don't think this looks bad, per say, but wouldn't hate any cleaner.

Do you think HPL EC would get this cleaner? I have a stock of MSL51522 and have no problem changing out filters.

The EC product is a good start, but their fully formulated oils actually have more cleaning capabilities.

Light varnish is generally considered harmless; I don't see anything of major concern in your photo.

For 250k miles that looks great! I’d be very happy with an engine that clean!

I'd just clean it with some diesel while you have the rocker cover off. Leave the oil pan plug out while cleaning and most (if not all) of the diesel will exit the engine automatically.

Considering the mileage, it look’s pretty darn good. Button it up and drive it another 10 years.

For me I do not see anything wrong with that condition considering the miles. Keep up your good work.

Me personally I’d run HPL CK-4 HDEO 5w or 10w30 oil

Take a good look at the coolant temp sensor connector....Looks crooked.

The oil pan will look way worse, But it's a non-issue....Keep doing what you're doing, It's tough to kill a Gen III LM7/L59!

Looks great. If you’re inclined to run some EC, go for it. Certainly won’t hurt anything and it should help clean it up whether it “needs” it or not

Run Valvoline Restore and Protect for a good 30,000 miles.

I’d use royal purple Hps. I’m not some royal purple plugging nut, but I just had a very clean engine turn the oil black in 6500 miles when hpl and Schaeffers did not. I think there was some crud somewhere that the HPS cleaned up. I borescoped the top of the engine a 85k after running maxlife synthetic from new, changed out every 4-5k and where could see was still new looking. Bright and shiny. But I wouldn’t worry about what you have there. That’s varnish and won’t hurt a thing. It looks like a Mobil 1 engine, which isn’t a bad thing.

If you are contemplating HPL, I'd skip the EC and go straight to their oil as Dave noted. Just keep an eye on your oil filters, that's where the liberated material will end up.

**** good eye. Now I gotta look. I’m gonna guess at some point I hit the sensor and the connector is half broke.

Mobil1 0W40 is overkill for that engine anyway. Keep using it. Unless there is an issue with engine, just keep going.
Thinking about that, maybe Mobil1 ESP 0W30 is actually better choice. It is still Euro oil with higher HTHS, but it has esters which should clean better. I would try that. That one is also overkill protection wise.
