Would a optima redtop fit my stock altima coupe 3.5se without modification? does anyone have exprience had one in my old car that was different though?

I know you can buy one that is supposed to fit a Mustang but takes a special tray that then locks you in to the Optima. I think they should make them to fit a car with no modification.

The adapters come with the battery. The adapters adjust the height/width of the battery for better fitment in the battery tray and/or so the battery hold-down works properly.

I'd pass optima's are not the batteries they used to be.

pure overpriced garbage now.

just get a regular battery at AAP with their 40$ off 100$ coupon and 25$ MIR

x2 I would avoid the Optima, and that is coming from someone who owns one.

My made in Mehico, Johnsons Control Red Top, purchased for $110.00 in '09 from Costco is still going strong, BUT when it does die, I'm going for a EnerSys Odyssey/Sears Platinum next.

If this is true, I am sad about it. I put one in my 89 Accord in 2002 and it lasted six years - double the life of any prior battery, and I owned the car from 1989. The one I replaced it with in 2008 was at four years when I damaged the car and sold it. The battery was still fine. The BEST I ever did with a conventional battery was three years. I am not convinced that there is anything wrong with Optima batteries.

It's well documented when Optima changed owners, the quality went downhill.

Costco no longer sells them, but their own batteries are good value with 36/100 warranty.

Reportedly Costco are now made by Interstate, but don't quote me on that.

And interstate is made by..... johnson controls,
just like many other well known branded black boxes. nothing special but they get the job done pretty well.

The best suggestion is to find the best deal, and the best warranty .

+3
Optima was an innovative Swedish design; now it is made by JCI -- which is not intended as a knock on JCI, but just an observation where the company's focus is. Once the shining star of a smaller company's line, now Optima is made to fit into a broader line.

The "six-pack" design, while clever and distinctive, wastes some of the real estate of the footprint, which must be rectangular. If you are looking at an Optima because you want an AGM (absorbed glass mat) technology battery, the East Penn Deka AGM line (also sold as a house brand by Carquest) has more plate area per h x w x d, and thus more power for the size. In our experience, the QC on Dekas is quite good, also.

We've used Optimas and they stunk up the place. Then they denied the warranty due to our severe service!

Overpriced junk IMO. A quality regular battery is at least comparable and MUCH cheaper.

Darn! I really liked my two Optimas. Were they still good in 2008? The one I bought at that time sure seemed to be good.

I guess when I have to buy a battery I will shoot for a different brand of AGM design.

Whether it fits or not I would skip it and go with an Odyssey as it's a superior product and would be smaller/lighter at the same time.

Actually, the ONLY reason I went with the Red Top over the Odyssey originally, some 12 years ago was precisely because it was some 5-8 lbs. lighter than the EnerSys product for MY car.

So NO, given the same output/specs/group size, the Optimas are ligher than the equivalent Odysseys (notice; I did NOT say; "better than", "longer lasting", etc.).

Just for reference, I've been using an Odyssey PC680 (7kg, 220CCA) for the last 10 years and am just in the process of upgrading to a PC625 (6kg, 265CCA). From my experience I would look for an Odyssey battery that is 1/4 to 1/2 the weight of the OE battery, anything more is unnecessary.

The PC680/625 are not the appropriate 'products for my car(s)' but above -20C they do a fantastic job, save weight/fuel and corrosion in the (10 year) process. Hope I can get 10+ years out of the next one.

I still haven't heard from the Optima critics. Would an Optima battery purchased in August of 2008 been one of the newer, "bad" Optima batteries? My first, 2003 red top lasted six years and the 2008 purchase was still going strong at four years - compared to no more than three years out of a conventional battery.
