would 5W-20 be better for <4mi tripper over 5W-30?

Thank you for your quick answer chubbs1.

another question:
In my case, what OCI is equivalent to "normal" 5k OCI?
What would be the risk of switching to 20 grade? Should I avoid occasional long trips with this car?

Hasn't the Toyota 0W-20 been back spec'd for both you're cars; I think so.
That oil would be ideal for your application and while the recommended OCI is 10,000 miles I would cut that in half due to your short trips that won't get the oil up to temp'.

If 0w-20 was back spec'd wouldnt that be the best choice for him as long as oil pressure was acceptable with it. If it was not spec'd you would think a 0w30 would be the next best thing.

The 0W-20 is back spec'd to include the OP's cars:

If it wasn't, in his climate a 0w30 isn't any lighter on start-up to a light 5w30 syn'.

With M1 or the Toyota 0W20 I would change it every 5,000 miles with your short commute. Standard Interval is 10,000 miles on the Toyota 0W20. I dont know enough about the Synpower TBN retention to make a recommendation.
