Last July our Fujitsu Inverter split system failed and we had no proper heating for 13 weeks in the middle of a Canberra winter. Not nice. Well last night it failed again with identical symptoms. Service people can't even look at it till the 18th. I'm scrounging loan heaters from workmates. I can't believe this is happening.

The weather page shows low 30s to high 20s (F) for the overnight low. But with relatively high humidity I bet it feels colder than it actually is.

-3/4C last night. -7C two weeks ago. It normally goes into regular defrost mode when it's that cold but now back to last years fault, run for a few minutes and stop for longer. Really need ducted gas with add-on air-con. Heat pumps do little at these temperatures. Guess I better go and by some Bundy (Bundaberg) Rum tonight.

LOL, the last few weeks we've had Ice on our windows...inside, and a few mornings without water.

I've got a back-up kero heater and 10 litres of Kero in case our system goes belly up.

Just been told Fujitsu knows these early Inverter systems have a problem but will not do anything about it. Said parts are nearly impossible to get, zero backup tech support. Said if it was a Daikin (the best available) they would replace it when they know somethings wrong. Also it appears Japan uses Australia as Guinea pigs. We may get the product before othr places but that's NOT a good thing. Mark Taylor has a lot to answer for (only Aussies would get this one) Ex Australian Cricket captain who does all their ads.

Anything marketted in the manner of Tubbie's advertisements is something I normally steer clear of.

Inlaws put in (I think) a mitsubishi when MIL first got sick. Functions well down to -7C.

I've got gas, and only in the family room.

Works for us, as that's where we live.

Beds have loads of blankets etc.

I should have ducted gas with air for summer. Got the Fuje for free so can't really complain. Going for the Rolls Royce Daikin next time. As I always say you live and learn.

-7°C? That would seem cold to us, too!

We used to have a heat pump (when we lived in OR), it was very dependable but at best we used it to hold a basal temperature. If you wanted to be toasty warm supplemental energy (wood fire) was required. It was a great air conditioner, though.

In our last house we had a heat pump supplimented with natural gas. The heat pump worked well until around 30 degrees or so, then the gas furnace would phase in slowly, supplimenting as needed for the lower temperatures.

We liked the system and it was economical to operate compared to stand-alone natural gas forced air. Saved us about 30% on the bill until the late December/January/February deep freeze.

Latest technology heat pump. An inverter air conditioner uses an inverter circuit to regulate the rotational speed of the compressor to match the output of the compressor to the cooling pump load. This reduces the number of times the compressor stops and starts as the load varies, so saving on electricity bills and reducing noise levels compared to non-inverter models. 30% more efficient than old style heat pump. Good till it breaks.

The only problem with heat pumps is perception. You don't mind 68-70F air blowing on you when it's 85F+ outside ...but 70F air blowing on you when it's 32F outside turns into a draft that's hard to deal with for some reason. You're still at 68-70F

yep, regularly get frosted windows here too.
One morning the hot water wouldn't work at 10:00am

a gate valve split wide open at the stables this morning, and have had to break the ice on the water troughs at 10.30 in the morning.....
