WORLD CUP 2026 THREAD

If Belgium 🇧🇪 win, I'll donate $50 to BITOG.
Done. :)
It's almost impossible to find the donation CTA button on the forum. I needed to search the threads in order to find the donation button—the UX needs improvement. Please, bring the button to the top of the forums, instead the lower right on desktop. On mobile the donation button is also at the bottom of the screen.

That was a poor performance by team USA. What I don't get is the goalie, what the heck was he playing at? I thought he was running out for a midfield tackle.
Just seemed like good old nerves. Huge stage, not mentally there at all. Oh well, it's not like the rest of the team was particularly sharp this game.

Tillman stepped up through the games. Balogun was good earlier games.

This game in particular, the team was slow and stupid. Scared.

My question looks at Pulisic. Has this guy ever done much in BIG games. I mean he is good at losing the ball. Maybe I missed it, but why is he always the talking head chatter #1 guy?

"AM Christian Pulisic, 2 -- Belgium keeping possession for the majority of the first half meant that Pulisic was part of the press that sought to force some confusion at the back. His strongest moments came during an early push in the second half before an apparent injury led to him being subbed out. His first half, however, was rough: Pulisic's 11 possessions lost were the most of any player on the field."

Compounded stress. Little problems snowball.
We were exactly where we deserved to be. I'm not blaming any of the players.

Now, time to root for Belgium 😊.
This is how it's done in soccer. We support them nails and teeth, so when they become champions we can go "...see, that's why we lost - because they are so good, and that's why they won - because we gave them an easy time that allowed them to get some rest..."

The ball was close enough to catch it right after the corner and not give the chance the attacker to play with it. That what good golies usually do.
A golie jumping for the ball with his hands is always taller than an offensive player trying to hit it with his head. Also, if the opposite player hit or push in any way the goalie (even a little) is always fault for the goalie's team.

Sadly, the US goalie ruined the game with two fatal mistakes.
Did you watch the game? You are going to put all of that on 1 guy. The entire team played terrible, but yes of course it is 1 guy's fault.

In team sports, you win and lose as a team. Watch Miracle and you will see a clearer picture of team sports, and that is coming from a Canadian hockey fan!

You sound like the youth hockey team I coached years back when we would lose a game. The player skated past 5 other players, but yes, it was the goalie's fault.... 🤣 🤣 🤣

There are are two more games left in the round of 16, but so far the 4-1 spanking Belgium gave to the USA was the biggest spread. 😬
Actually, Canada’s loss to Morroco had a 3 point spread as well. A large spread is embarrassing for the losing team. Especially when the forth goal was in the closing seconds of the game. 🫢
I was politely, in my Can border, ultra nice way, trying to avoid bringing up:

CANADA LOSS WAS QUITE UGLY.

Sometimes in sports and life there are similarities.

One thing is to avoid trouble whenever possible. Yeah the goalie could have done better........on that second goal. But what led up to that close shot was no better. Our back line was stinky. Our mids were of not much assistance.

Meh, move on. I remember years and years ago, some good player, maybe a south American, I don't remember saying..........the world really doesn't want USA to be good at soccer (futbol). Not that this is planned or anything, but I find it entertaining.

In four years there better be an Italy in the WC or I'm moving.
